I am presently watching the lovefest for Maurice Clarett on ESPN. This
is incredible. Here we have a player who, based on his workouts, should
not rate a single mention during draft coverage, yet he is getting as
much undeserved attention from these lame, wanna-be comedians as
Michael Vick. Clarett was outrun by linemen during his workouts, hasn't
played in two years, and has numerous off-field and character issues.
What an attractive package for any organization! Yet, one of the few
organizations I still halfway respected- the Broncos- utterly waste a
THIRD round pick on this slow, overrated clown. Listening to Shanahan
glow about Clarett, including the ridiculous but predictable claim that
he is "smart," made me lose all respect for him.
Now, in contrast to the situation with Clarett, we have Jesse Lumsden.
Here is a big, very fast and accomplished runner with no off-field
issues and no time away from the game. He hasn't been drafted yet, and
probably won't be at all, and none of the jock-sniffers on television
have even mentioned his name. Comparing Clarett to Lumsden, we find
that Lumsden is light years ahead of Clarett in EVERY possible
category. However, Clarett has one thing Lumsden does not have, and
cannot develop through daily workouts. That would be the proper skin
color. Really, this is so obvious, and so depressing. What other
explanation is there?
