Clarett vs. Lumsden

I am presently watching the lovefest for Maurice Clarett on ESPN. This
is incredible. Here we have a player who, based on his workouts, should
not rate a single mention during draft coverage, yet he is getting as
much undeserved attention from these lame, wanna-be comedians as
Michael Vick. Clarett was outrun by linemen during his workouts, hasn't
played in two years, and has numerous off-field and character issues.
What an attractive package for any organization! Yet, one of the few
organizations I still halfway respected- the Broncos- utterly waste a
THIRD round pick on this slow, overrated clown. Listening to Shanahan
glow about Clarett, including the ridiculous but predictable claim that
he is "smart," made me lose all respect for him.

Now, in contrast to the situation with Clarett, we have Jesse Lumsden.
Here is a big, very fast and accomplished runner with no off-field
issues and no time away from the game. He hasn't been drafted yet, and
probably won't be at all, and none of the jock-sniffers on television
have even mentioned his name. Comparing Clarett to Lumsden, we find
that Lumsden is light years ahead of Clarett in EVERY possible
category. However, Clarett has one thing Lumsden does not have, and
cannot develop through daily workouts. That would be the proper skin
color. Really, this is so obvious, and so depressing. What other
explanation is there?

After Clarett was picked, Tory Holt stood and applauded and cheered for at least a minute. He was totally out of his element there in the first place; maybe they told him his "job" was to do some racial cheerleading at appropriate times.

You rarely ever see one black athlete disparage another (Shaq and Kobe
not withstanding.) That is left for white athletes only.

Another thing that amazes me is the number of incredubly short running backs and cornerbacks being selected. One running back they just featured was 5'8" and ran a 4.65 40. How does this happen? Why even do the NFL combine and keep stats? Lumsden is big and fast - on the TSN video clip website an NFL scout said he was overhyped. He's probably a guy who rates slow smurfs very highly.

I agree with all of you guys on this one.How in the hell
can they not even mention Lumsdens name. What is going
on here.Hold the white guy down.Luke Staley wasn't
drafted until the final round.Jesse may not even get
that chance. It's enough to make a person sick to their
stomach.Come on nfl, wake up,draft and play this kid
please!!

Virtually every single black selected, we are assured by Mel and others, has "great ability" and "athleticism," no matter how short, slow or weak they are, while white players, no matter how outstanding their physical measurables, are rarely similarly blessed. And ifwhites don't have outstanding physical measurables they don't have a chance to be drafted or even signed as a free agent. What a rigged system.

ESPN just televised Clarett's press conference. Full blown Maurice-mania beganthe instanthe was drafted (not that it had ever died out sincehis freshman season at Ohio State). The kid has had run-ins with the law, is incredibly selfish even for a black athlete, had two years to get in prime shape for the Combine and failed miserably, and is rewarded with near Michael Vick-like attention and publicity. Such a deal.

Can you believe it? Was any other player's press conference televised?
Better yet, did any other player hold a press conference?

Maurice Clarett without question possesses talent. The Ohio State offense suffered without him. That being said, there are character and performanceissues to consider (or ignore if you're Mike Shanahan). We're told that character issues kept Cody and Roth, both of whom proved themselves for a far greater stretch of time, from being drafted higher. Cody, according to ESPN has been diagnosed with clinical depression and Browns GM, Savage seemed to hint that there were concerns with Roth's maturity. To be fair to the Browns, they did draft three white players and indicated they expressed interest in moving up to pick David Pollack(sp?)) from Georgia. I'm not much into predictions, but I don't believe Clarett will experience success. For one, his lack of speed will be more pronounced in the NFL. Secondly, he's not an elusive runner. His running style makes him more prone to taking hard shots from what will be bigger, faster tacklers. His only season at OSU he struggled with more than one minor injury. This was a poor choice by Denver, especially when you consider all the other talented players still available when Clarett was chosen.

One more thought on Clarett. Could his hype and buid-up be an attempt to taint the program of Jim Tressel, OSU coach who happens to field one of the whitest major college football programs?

I think Clarett has tainted himself so much with his selfishness,run-ins with the law and his failure to train hard even though he had two years to prepare, that it would be hard for it to rub off on Tressel, especially now that he's officially in the NFL. In a sane society, athletes like Clarett wouldn't be drafted and they would be shunned by the media rather than fawned over non-stop. As long as I've been following the Caste System, the absurd media overkill concerning Clarett still surprised me.

Given what this entire website is about, and what I assume any regular reader of same knows to be true, why is there any shock or surprise that Lumsden wasn't drafted, or that Clarett is being fawned over by the white-hating cabal? This crap has been going on for years and years and is just a sympton of the atmosphere we are living in, in what now is the once-great country of America.

Funny that it suprises you..... as lonng as it has been
happening. But I admit sometimes, it suprises me too the way "the
media" builds these people up witht he advertisements and the
commercials wiht the shoes even though they might kill someone
(allegedly, like Ray Lewis, or for real like Ray Carruth). Or
fornicate with a white woman (kobe.)

Face it, if Clarette was a white player he would have been lucky to bee drafted in the tenth round, forget about the third.

Face it, there is not even a "double standard" anyemore, it's so
bad. There si no way a palyer like cLarett should even been
draftet and if he;swhite he is selling insurance or used cars,

Redman, I'm no member of the grammar police, by any means. But your
posts are a little hard to read and the point you are trying to make is
obscured by the number of typos and different size fonts you use.
Would you try a little harder to edit before posting? The preview
post feature is very handy in this regard.

Thanks!

I still just don't get it.Why in the hell did they take
this kid?He is a cancer in the locker room and not to
mention,as slow as a turtle. Then you have guys like
Kretschmer,Lumsden,and Eckel who go undrafted.What
a joke!

Wow, whatever your name is. That is some point. I guess you told us. There's no way I can argue against those facts. Blacks win less Olympic medals than whites. Now thats a fact.

Good. I didn't see but one. It would be nice if people would be intelligent in their comments.

Anyone who registers and posts hate-filled crap like that will be banned right away. There was another one a couple of months ago who tried the same thing and he was gone instantly too.

I'm glad I didn't see the other comment he made.

Col., you didn't miss anything believe me.

Kaptain Poop, Kyle Eckel signed with New England. The Navy gave him permission to pursue an NFL career. Good luck to Kyle, he's a great football player and a great role model.

Here's a link to NFL free agent signings:

I'm glad for Kyle. I hope someone will give him a decent chance.
