Move over Miguel Cabrera. There's a new top slugger in MLB. Chris Davis, the 27-year-old first baseman and star in the making, is now hitting .337/.413/.720 numbers that rank second, second and first in the American League. Additionally, he leads the league lead in OPS (1.132) and total bases (190), ranked second in RBIs (66) and doubles (23) and third in runs scored (51). He's 7 homers over the next group of guys and is on pace for 50 plus round-trippers. He's also way ahead in all-star voting so he should be starting in that game. A homerun derby appearance could be in the works too.

Not bad for a guy who was traded from Texas for a middle reliever. Davis has always had power but had poor contact rates. He's clearly changed his approach to be more selective as his strikeouts are way down and his walks are way up. It's looking more and more likely that this is a breakout and not a fluke. Mike Trout and Bryce Harper are phenomenal but we could really use a White slugger like Davis challenging for home run titles year after year. After all, Adam Dunn isn't getting any younger and that batting average is hard to stomach.

Nice mention. Chris Davis is having a phenomenal year. I hope he stays hot and can keep it up for a few years. You are right that we need some young HR hitters to develop and he seems like a good one. He put on a show against the Tigers this week.

This is great news. When is the last time we had this many up and coming stars. With him and Bryce Harper, it will be alot more fun to
watch this year. I hope both of these guys are also in the home run derby.

Good news. Well I am not a big fan of American sports, but I think there's an obvious white renaissance in American sports in the 2000's and 2010's. Most super stars and highest paid players in the NFL are white, most MVP award winners have been white too, all the elite QB's white too, MLB has become less black and many white stars are around, NHL is always white dominated, in the NBA there have been tons of white superstars (from around the world), NASCAR white, Michael Phelps the greatest Olympian ever, the rise of Extreme Sports which are totally white dominated, Boxing being dominated by white Euros, UFC and MMA excluding a couple of years now has been very white dominated too and Chris Weidman scored a huge victory against the caste system. Thinking about it and after USA survived the CATASTROPHIC 90's where the crusade of the "Super Negro" athlete was in full force, things can only get better now.

What's shocking is the crazy decline of USA in golf and tennis but thank God other white nations dominate there.

The season is a little more than half over. Chris Davis has 33 home runs (the most in MLB by 4 over the next player) and has 85 runs batted in. These totals would be good if the season ended today. If he continues on this pace he will have a historic home run season, excluding all of the cheating steroid users like Bonds, Sosa, etc.

The "new Babe Ruth" your thinking of would be Bryce Harper. He's only 20 yet just made his 2nd all star team. He was having a great season until an injury from crashing into the outfield wall. He's returned this week and seems to be playing well again.

Also, don't forget Mike Trout. He's another young phenom and superb athlete.

Hopefully Davis will keep his power surge going in the second half of the season, otherwise Miguel Cabrera is almost a cinch to win the Triple Crown again. Cabrera has a 7 RBI lead over Davis (92 to 85), and trails him by four HRs. In batting average Cabrera currently is at .363, with David Ortiz way behind in second place at .327.

Cabrera doesn't want the media spotlight, and the media obliges, something that would never happen with a black player of Cabrera's talent no matter how introverted. He would instead be continually praised, ala Marvin Harrison and Barry Sanders, for his "dignity" and "selflessness." Harrison of course later turned out to have chocked a 13 year old boy who asked him for an autograph, and allegedly shot someone outside his Philly bar, but as usually happens thanks to black skin privilege he was never charged with anything.

I don't know if McGwire was using in 95 or 96, but he was on a 62-65 HR pace during those years before injuries cut his season short. Hitting 39 in 104 games and 52 in just 130 games. I have also stated many times to remember; MM hit a ML record 49 HR's as a rookie, before we know he was using. A lot of if's and but's, but I still think McGwire could have hit 62 or more easily without steroids, whereas players like Bonds and Sosa never showed that kind of power before steroids!

Anyway, with Davis hitting 5th, it could help him catch and surpass Cabrera's RBI total if Weiters can start hitting better behind him.

I'm glad you brought that up FF. Here in Central Jersey I was in my dentist's office and the current issue of S.I. was there with Chris Davis on the cover. After I left I walked across the outdoor mall into Shop-Rite and at the news stand was S.I with Mario Balotelli on the cover. The two buildings are 50 yards apart but two different covers. I wonder what the criteria is for S.I. when sending out particular covers. There is obviously more to it than just regional preferences.

Davis has just about rapped up the HR title. Miguel Cabrera has screwed himself by playing injured and he has no power right now as he can only use his arms to swing. Davis might catch him in RBI too, only two behind. Cabrera will probably win his 3rd straight batting title though as he will sit when the Tigers clinch, that will lock his average in and it will probably be out of reach of Trout now 20 points behind.
