I'm intrigued to see how Chet fares in the college game. Hopefully, he puts a bit of good weight on his frame. It really does seem like Durant is a reasonable player comparison.

this young man has a chance to be a very special player. his combination of skills, agility, and length is unique. the only question is whether he will be able to gain enough strength to be effective as he progresses to higher, more physical levels of play.

Watching Gonzaga v San Diego tonight. Holmgren is so impressive. I like his cool demeanor on the court. I’m not worried about his frame. He will gradually get bigger, but he’s probably a Kevin Durant body type. That won’t keep him from being successful.

last night Chet put on an absolutely dominant performance against a short-handed BYU team. in 28 minutes, the potential #1 overall pick in the NBA draft had game-highs of 20 points (9-14 shooting, 2-5 from three-point range), 17 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 blocks. he also added a steal and only committed 2 turnovers.

he is adjusting to the more physical college game and becoming the force many expected him to be, despite his thin frame.

The most productive week of Chet Holmgren’s freshman season helped Gonzaga pick up a road sweep of San Diego and there were more rewards in store for the 7-footer on Monday morning.

Holmgren was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, along with the Freshman of the Week, after scoring 43 points, grabbing 29 rebounds, blocking nine shots and dishing out seven assists in a 92-62 win over San Diego Thursday at Jenny Craig Pavilion and a 90-57 win over BYU Saturday at the Marriott Center.

He was also named the Lute Olson National Player of the Week by CollegeInsider.com.

It was the eighth WCC Freshman of the Week honor for Holmgren this season, but the first time the Minnesota native has been recognized Player of the Week ...

Forty-eight hours later, Holmgren scored 20 points against BYU and pulled down a season-high 17 rebounds. He also matched a season-high with six assists and blocked five shots – his second-highest block total in a game this season. Holmgren became the fifth Division I player since 2010 to assemble at least 20 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and five blocks in a game.

Holmgren’s 14.6 points per game now rank sixth in the WCC and the freshman continues to lead the conference in rebounds per game (9.2), blocks per game (3.4) and field goal percentage (64.2). He’s also shooting 46.3% from three-point range this season and has made 18-of-30 (60%) during WCC games.

well, it’s very interesting for our guys ...

Chet Holmgren has recently climbed to the top of his national player rankings, which are said to be adjusted for strength of opposition faced even down to the individual matchups.

what’s especially interesting from a Caste perspective is the disproportionate representation of “overachieving, blue collar, hard working gym rats” at the top of the rankings. 6 of his national-top 10 are our guys: Holmgren 1, Drew Timme (also of Gonzaga) 2, Azoulis Tubelis (Arizona) 6, Matthew Mayer (Baylor’s only White player) 7, Zach Edey (Purdue) 9, Grayson Murphy (Belmont) 10.

we all know “dat maf beez rayciss n sheeyut,” but this is ridiculous! LOL. it’s as if objectively measurable data reveals that White athletes are at least competitive with their darker-hued peers. “weird, huh?”

Holmgren has been named as one of four finalists for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year. he has also been named as a second-team AP All-American (along with teammate Drew Timme).

i find it interesting ... Gonzaga only plays two White athletes this season (and they’ve not been recruiting many either), but they are their two best players. perhaps Gonzaga shouldn’t forget what made them so great in the first place: a bunch of hungry, underrated White cats who were tough as nails.

the hype around Holmgren is likely insufficient to what it should be. his game is unique, a word that is obviously overused by the talking heads. but in this case, it is fitting. he is literally doing things that have never been done before on the basketball court. see here:

for complete info, in his first game of the NCAA Tourney, Holmgren finished with 19 points (8-13 shooting), 17 rebounds, 7 blocks, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 0 turnovers in 29 minutes.
