I got free tickets to the Rockets preseason game last night, so I decided to go check out rookie Chase Budinger. Budinger has been putting up solid numbers all preseason and I expect him to make a major contribution to the Rockets this season.

In the game, Budinger led the Rockets with 17 pts off the bench including shooting 3 for 4 from 3 pt range. He is very athletic, moving very well on defense. A number of times he got switched off onto smaller guards and he was able to shut them down. When they drove to the paint, he cut them off and crowded them so they had trouble passing or getting a shot off. I was very impressed and I expect big things from him in his young career. We definitely want to keep an eye on him.

Thanks for the report. Chase falling to the middle of the 2nd round was the caste joke of this year's NBA draft. I'm glad to hear he's proving the haters wrong so far!

Having watched Chase play for the Wildcats, I agree that he will be a draft steal for the Rockets. It's a crime how low he went. He is way too talented to not have gone in the first round. He has a 40 inch vertical and a jump shot to go with it!

I might be way over my head on this one, but I view him as the White Scottie Pippen. My reasons are because:

- of his incredibly low draft status (2nd round, 44th overall)
- he had an outstanding career in Arizona (15.6, 17.1, and 18.2 ppg.)
- a super gifted athlete (40 inch vertical leap)
- a triple threat (score, rebounds, and assist)
- and a much better defender than given credit for

There is a very considerable chance of him becoming a perennial solid NBA player who could if possible, make several All-Star and All-NBA selections. He is definitely a big-time draft steal.Edited by: j41181

Budinger will be one of the most athletic shooting guards in the league. The knock on him is that his lateral agility is not good.

well, Steve, you beat me to it.

My wife is a big Rockets fan and she clued me into Budinger who looks like a budding star (no pun intended).

How this guy flew under the radar is a mystery.

He is only getting 16 minutes a game so far in 2 games this season .  I hope as the season goes on he gets  more minutes maybe somewhere in the 25 min per game range.

Even the local radio sports talk shows, who are normally caste followers, are saying that the Rockets need to give Budinger more minutes. He has been solid in his limited minutes.Edited by: SteveB

Chase, along with fellow white rookie David Andersen played only 9 minutes apiece last night. Seems to me Houston has a problem, they appear to have no patience in developing these guys. I hope I'm proven wrong by mid-season.

A good game finally for Chase Budinger (17 points). This should get his NBA career going now. White NBA veterans Okur (21 points) and Kirilenko (18 points) were solid as usual. Houston won 113-96.

Budinger is doing well for his first year in the league.  He is averaging almost 10 points a game on 46 % shooting. If he was a a starter and averaged around 35 min per game he could average around 20 points per game.

I'm glad he got drafted so low. Hopefully he can take that huge snub and continue to rub it into league managers(by becoming a force in the league)like Tom Brady has done in the NFL.

Another strong game from Budinger tonight:

15 points (6-10 FG's, 3-4 3pt's)
1 rebounds
2 assists

T-Mac is coming back on Nov. 18, not a good sign for this dude.

Budinger's Turkish counterpart, Ersan Ilyasova, was even more impressive tonight:

17 points (5-8 FG's, 3-3 3pt's, 4-4 FT's)
8 renounds
1 assist
2 blocks

Chase is a stud. They need to make time for him even with Tmac in the game. Tmac can draw double teams and give Chase the open looks. Budinger is a leader. I watched him play at Arizona and he never got the credit he deserved.

Chase had another in the game against the Suns tonight. He needs to play more. The kid has all star potential.

The only limit on Budinger is his attitude. He is an extremely gifted perimeter player, and his game is made for the NBA. He's a SoCal kid who is also a world-class volleyball player, which is always something of a red flag in the intensity department. If he had the motor of, say, David Lee, or if Lee had the talent of Budinger, that player would lead the league in scoring and make the All-Defensive Team.

Lee plays a different position than Budinger so I don't think it's fair to compare them. Lee is almost as athletic as Chase and can rebound, play defense, and score. He is finally starting and shooting way over 50 % from the field. Lee should make a few All star games in his career.

This must be so embarrassing to the bruthas to see a white boy do this to them. Alot of them care more about image than winning and so a white man flying around and over the top of them is probably humiliating. A flagrant foul of the vicious kind may await Chase in the near future.
