Colorado Rockies CF Charlie Blackmon has set a new MLB record by driving in 101 runs from the leadoff position! Blackmon hit his 37th HR earlier this evening to give him 101 RBI's. He has since singled and drove in 2 more to give him 103 RBI's on the season. Blackmon broke the record set by the Angels Darin Erstad drove in 100 runs for the Angels and was former punter for the Nebraska Cornhuskers 1994 National Championship team.
Blackmon currently leads the league in Runs 136, Hits 208, Triples 14, BA. 328. and incredibly Total Bases 379!

With only two games left it is time to think about MVP candidates. Mike Trout hit two solo dingers last night but the Angels fell apart even after bolstering the lineup. Trout has had some patchy spots this year but whenever a player gets injured for a long period it is tough to regain the magic. He won't win the MVP this season but still put up terrific overall numbers. Is it time to fire their manager?
Blackmon has had a wonderful season. I think the NL MVP race boils down to three players but Blackmon should get the nod over his teammate Arenado. So that leaves big burly power hitting Stanton. Not buying him. My pick is Blackmon who has had one of the greatest years ever by a lead off hitter. Additionally unlike Stanton who is a statue in LF, Blackmon plays CF, my favorite position, with aplomb. So my vote with no hesitation is Blackmon. Last year I had Trout over Betts and I was right. I think Blackmon should win it!! Plus I love it when white players lead the league in triples. The Rockies, we hope, clinch a playoff birth.

I hope he wins mvp also, the only negative for Blackmon is who he plays for. The rockies get very little coverage around here where I live ,N.C., I don't know how many people really know who he is. Hoping for the best though.

Hoping you’re right Shadowlight!I’m a jaded Colorado fan that is used to seeing players get passed over for big awards (with he exception being larger than life figures like Peyton Manning and Patrick Roy). I’ve had he sinking feeling watching this down the stretch that this is gonna be one of those Type of scenarios when they are all bunched up at the top where they just give it to the guy with the darkest skin (Stanton)

The rockies have had to endure not only the coors field stigma (which is somehow worse than the steroids stigma) but also the “yeah but he wasn’t “valuable” because they had a losing team this year (which will be one of the reasons I’ll be pissed if Stanton wins-they always like to stop using that talking point if it helps a dark player)

I used to work with Blackmon's first cousin. Charlie's a great guy who has worked hard at every level to get where he is. I love to see white men like him succeed.

Blackmon having another solid year for a less than stellar Rockies club. Batting .318 and 30 homers. Safe to say he's still one of the most underrated players in MLB!
