I'm looking for some input for a year end column. I would like to highlight the best white athletes of 2005 and the best individual efforts.

Please post those players and games/events that you felt were the highlights of 2005.

Don't be shy. I usually don't get much feedback on these things.

And don't be afraid to list multiple players, for instance the 5 best white players in college football 2005

Some examples.
Paul Konerko, CASTEFOOTBALL Baseball MVP for his effort in leading the White Sox to their first World Series Championship in 90 years.

Ok, I'll start.

Bode Miller - Dominated the World alpine skiing events winning the World Cup Overall (first American since Phil Mahre in 1983), the World Cup Super G, the Downhill World Championship, and the Super G World Championship. The most dominating season by a skier in the last 25 years.
Lance Armstrong - Won his record seventh Tour De France in dominating fashion.
Track and Field World Championships - Jeremy Wariner and Andrew Rock win gold and silver in the 400m. Wariner is the first white sprinter to break the 44 second barrier.
Jeremy Bloom - Wins his second World Cup Moguls title by winning six events in a row (a record).
Houston Astros - Win the National League Championship with an almost all white team.

I will have to nominate a bunch of guys.

College Football - Matt Leinart - 3 straight undefeated teams and possibly a 3rd straight nat'l championship.

Mike Haas - Led Nation in Receiving Yards Per Game by a landslide.Finished in top 3 in yards two years in a row!

Nick Hartigan - Broke almost every single rushing record in Brown's History and most Ivy League Records.He finished as Div IAA Leading Rusher in the nation for the 2nd year in a row and was 3rd in all of football.


Track - Jeremy Wariner & Andrew Rock going 1-2 in the World Championsips.Wariner became the first white to ever run 44.00 seconds flat.Also I would put Craig Pickering who at 18 ran a 10.22 and was the fastest teenager in all of Europe as he won the gold medal!


NFL It has to go to Peyton Manning for making history.You could possibly put Urlacher in there as the Bears are having their best season in 20 years because of the dominant defense,almost no offense!


Baseball - Konerko,Podsenik and the White Sox.

NBA - It has to go to Nash even if Ginobli and the Spurs won the title.Nash won the MVP and is more than worthy!

Boxing - The Klitschko Brothers and Ricky Hatton!

Cycling - Lance Armstrong

Tennis - Roger Federer

Matt Jones first white wide receiver drafted in round one many years ran a 4.4 flat 40 at the combine. Jones is having the best year of any rookie wide receiver.


White wide receivers in college football -Mike Hass, Jeff Samardzija, Todd Blyth, David Anderson. This was a breakout year for white wideouts.</DIR>

Kyle Bell had the best season for a white running back in a long time. He's only a sophomore he could have the best career of any white back in 25 years or more. Plus Tailback is the blackest position in football.


White line backers in college football Ohio and Penn state had all white line backing cores that were the best in the country. Plus there were many other great white backers like Washinton's Will Derting, UCLA's Spencer Havner, Boston College's Brian Toal., Northwestern's Tim McGargle, and Iowas's Chad Greenway .

The Klitschko's would not be good choices for boxing MVPs. Vitali did not fight in 2005 and retired in November. Vitali is EASILY the choice for most disappointing white boxer of 2005.


Wlad had two fights. A decent KO over undefeated Eliseo Castillo and a back and forth war with undefeated Sam Peter. If he beats Brewster and Byrd in 2006 then we can talk about him being MVP of next year.


The easy choice for white boxer of the year is Ricky Hatton. He did the unthinkable instopping IBF champ Kostya Tszyu, a man who dominated the 140 lb division for years. He then unified the titles by beating WBA champ Carlos Maussa by KO.


Roman Karmazin deserves honorable mention for upsetting Kasim Ouma for the 154 lb belt. If Nicolai Valuev beats John Ruiz for the WBA heavyweight title he will also deserve a mention.


But Hatton is the man in 2005, hands down.

For continuing to be the most dominant fighter on the planet and more or less proving my tag-line to be true.

Matt Hughes: For being the most dominant fighter in his weight class.

I would like a couple of people to comment. I think Wlad being a heavyweight carries more..ahem...weight.

I agree with his choices, particularly Fedor. Hands down.

NFL - Have to cast a vote for Carson Palmer. The Colts without Peyton are mediocre; the Bengals without Carson are abysmal. I think Palmer is doing more with less, right now they're looking at 2nd seed in the AFC behind the best team in the NFL. But the Colts have a good chance of going undefeated, and that is solely because of who quarterbacks that team. Without Peyton, there is no way the Colts are 12-0.

Boxing - I agree with the choice of Ricky Hatton. There are too many coulda woulda shouldas with either of the Klitschkos, although the fight between Wlad and Sam Peter did more to upset the caste system than Hatton's fights, because he beat a Caucasian in Tszyu and a mestizo in Maussa.

Track & Field - There are plenty of white men who won gold in the shot put, javelin, etc, this year but I'm not sure if that qualifies for an MVP.

The success of white women in track was nothing short of phenomenal. I've compiled a list of a few here.

Paula Radcliffe took gold in the marathon at the World Championships in Helsinki.

The Russian team won gold in the 4x400 relay, beating a strong Jamaican team. The British had two white women on their relay team and took the Bronze.

Carolina Kluft of Sweden (blonde as can be) took gold in the heptathlon.

Yelena Isinbayeva set a new world record in the women's pole vault.

There are more but how many MVP's can you have, lol? I'd say that Isinbayeva setting a new world record might qualify for MVP in women's track & field though.

The guys pretty much covered the rest of the sports well enough. Great list, looks like whites are well represented in everything but football. Huh, how bout that?

My favorites of this year have to be Steve Nash- white NBA MVP, need I say more? And Mike Hass, best WR in college. But Federer, Armstrong, Quinn, Samardjiza, AJ Hawk, Ginobili, Hatton, all those guys have been great.

And let's not forget that Peter was the Great Black Hope of a "weak" heavyweight division: young, undefeated, powerful puncher, and Wlad dominated him... with a few burps along the way.Edited by: JD074

I think you have to go with the track guys--Wariner, Rock, etc, as
whites have been virtually shut out of that arena for years. The
progress is very exciting and encouraging. Steve Nash is an
obvious 2nd choice for the same reason mentioned in the post
above--white NBA MVP!
