I'm sure a lot of guys follow their local baseball teams in spring training and notice the "caste" system at work. I would be interested to hear about what is happening with the other teams. Here is a "castesystem" scouting report from Lakeland Florida winter home of the Detroit Tigers.
The Detroit Tigers continue their purge to get rid of as many white baseball players as possible and replace them with black or hispanic ones.
Bobby Higginson has been a fan favorite in Detroit for many years. He is all but gone now with the Tigers willing to eat the remaining 8.5 mil on his contract in favor of some black rookies that can't hit, are unproven, and will probably be busts.
An interesting thing happened in camp. The starting centerfielder Juan Sanchez was just outright released. Sending a hispanic player packing in this way is very unusual and must have been the result of some heinious act that hasn't made the papers.
Sanchez is an odd story. He came to America as one of the "boat people" from Cuba. Supposedly one of those kids that were put on an inner-tube and floated to Florida from Cuba (the "people's paradise"). He was a bust in Minnesota when the Tigers traded for him. There was some reason the Twins gave up on him just like the Tigers. I can't figure out from the 'PC bullcrap' in the papers what it is that makes teams just give up on him. They say it's something about attitude but the guy never says anything to the press so it must be something else.
Anyway Sanchez is a typical black/hispanic centerfielder. He cannot hit or field to save his life. But he is fast. Which is apparently enough to give a guy a starting job in center even when he nearly leads the league in errors. He hits .300 but it is the oddest .300 in the history of baseball. The guy bunts 3 or 4 times a game, and often gets on. At other times he hits grounders into the hole and beats it out. He strikes out a ton and only walked like 7 times all last season, and he was a fixture as a leadoff hitter. His on base percentage is miserable.
This is an example of the caste system at work. You could take a fast white guy, say Dusty Stamer, teach him to bunt and slap the ball and practice catching flies and you would have a better player then Sanchez. Sanchez plays big league ball for only one reason, he is fast. There are virtually no white players that would be allowed to play ONLY because they had speed.
Oh and Sanchez is HORRIBLE at stealing bases. He gets caught about 66% of the time. And everyone agrees he is the fastest guy in the game. So he is stupid too.
The Tigers tried to sign some other black guy, any black guy, to play center for them but were unsuccesful. So they are promoting a rookie named Nook Logan as a posible replacement. Problem is Logan can't hit. He's even worse then Sanchez was. So what are the Tigers doing? Handing Craig Monroe, another black outfielder, the starting job in centerfield. Monroe's qualifications for the job? None. He is the youngest black outfielder on the roster (that can hit) but surprise surprise Monroe led the league in errors as an outfielder last year. He also has virtully no speed. But remember he is black, so.........
All this brings us back to Higgenson. Higgy is one of the best rightfielders in the league. He has led the league in assists, has a great glove and covers a decent amount of ground (he is at least twice the outfielder Monroe is). Problem is that Higgy is white. He has not even been considered for the job. Not one single mention.
Look, I've managed little league teams and softball teams, etc. If you have a guy that plays a great right field and a guy that plays a crappy left field and you suddenly need a guy to play center. What do you do?????
Right! Play the best glove in center and save yourself the grief that the crappy guy will give you in center.
Early into the season this experiment will explode and the Tigers will overpay some washed up malcontent that is either black or hispanic and play him in center. Because of the caste system the Tigers will defy all logic and baseball sense and probably ensure they are uncompetitive in their division. The caste system rolls on.
