I'm always happy when the new golfing season kicks off each year with the Mercedes Benz Open in Kapalua, Hawaii. The field is limited strictly to tournament winners from the previous year, so it's an elite group of competitors.
The 2009 tournament was won by Geoff Ogilvy of Australia in a rout. He took the lead on the 14th hole of the first round and never trailed, cruising to a six shot win. He shot 67-68-65-68, began the final round with a six shot lead and went on to win by six. A steadier performance of excellent golfis hard to find.It was the fifth PGA win by the 31-year-old Ogilvy, includingthe 2006 U.S. Open, whois now the 6th ranked player in the world, though he languishes in obscurity.
So guess what headline I see in today's sports section: "Unsteady Ogilvy Still Wins PGA '09 Opener."
You just have to laugh at these Cultural Marxist clowns sometimes. What would the headlinebeif it had been Tiger Woods who performed as Ogilvy did --"The Master of All Masters Crushesa Feeble, Intimidated Fieldof Unathletic Overachieving Pretenders in Season's First Event"
Just wait for the media onslaught when Woods is nearing his comeback sometime this spring. It'll dwarf even the ongoing praise of the by then knighted Sir Donovan McNabb. Edited by: Don Wassall
