Caste Matchups Week Twelve

Figured I'd get the thread up because I want to post about the nice performances by two White Running QBs so far this week. Chandler Harnish ran 28 times for 181 yards and a TD in the win over Ball State. Tyler Tettleton ran 23 times for 128 yards and a TD in last night's win over Bowling Green. White Ohio RB Beau Blankenship received just 10 carries, but he got 55 yards with them.

I'm looking forward to seeing Northwestern beat Minnesota with Jacob Schmidt getting 10-15 carries. Also hoping for a big day from Rex Burkhead and Taylor Martinez against Michigan! Zach Line will have his work cut out for him against Houston, but I still expect a good game from him. I'd also like to see Hunter Lee have another nice game for Louisiana Tech against Nevada, but that depends on whether his coaches will be smart enough to continue to feed him the ball.

I saw parts of Oklahoma State's loss to Iowa State tonite and it seemed like the Cowboys had a few more whites on defense than just one. The definetly looked whiter than either LSU or Bama. I'm fearful of an LSU Bama NC game. Disgusting thought.

It's definitely worth noting that in the Cyclones win over OSU, Jeff Woody accounted for all 25 yards on the game-winning drive. a 6-yard run, a 15-yard run, and then the 4-yard TD run, Iowa State wins behind some white backup RB.

But meanwhile, I'm very, pleasantly surprised to see that Michigan's defensive front 4 are all white!

Nice to see Cooper have his 2nd consecutive 100 yard game. He has had kind of a quiet year after last year, I guess with Justin Blackmon getting so much hype he has kind of been ignored. Blackmon has declined a little bit (even though he is still a good wr), he isn't having the season he had last year, I saw one of his recent big catches on a highlight show and it was an obvious push off to get open.


Rex Burkhead lost a lot of yards recovering a bad pitch by Martinez so its stats don't look good right now, but had two nice runs on their td drivel, led to play action to get an afflete wide open. The ridiculous statistic was that this receiver was said to have 17 catches this season....and 10 drops. No wonder Martinez struggles as a passer.

Well the White players on Michigan are giving Burkhead a hard time. Just tackled by Kovac (spelling?) on a pitch. Another play he was stuffed by 2 White guys. Obviously the option isn't working today. Usually when that happens Nebraska starts running more tradtional stuff, they need to start doing that right now. That play they had a guy ready to tackle Martinez and he pitched and there was a guy ready to tackle Burkhead.

The td drive was Burkhead on a traditional toss play with zone blocking, then another traditional run play for a first down. Then a full house backfield with play action. Then they go back to the option and Burkhead loses yards.

Yeah, Michigan has the option well-defensed. Obviously, they've practice it well. Quick pitches to the left or right or quick hits up the middle to the left of the center are Nebraska's best option in the run game today.

Martinez can be a very frustrating player to watch. He is very gifted athletically but it doesn't seem like he is dedicated on elevating his game. He is very inconsistent on a weekly basis. Nebraska fans have questioned his work ethic. Hopefully he puts it all together soon.

Denard Robinson seems to get tackled very easily, you barely have to touch him and he goes down.

Frey just had a huge run but was stripped at the end. This is the first time I have seen him play, he has some moves.

Looks like several SEC teams are struggling with small school teams. Florida barely took the lead before half time against Furman, its now 27 to 22 Florida. Auburn is only up by 4 against Samford, 14-10. South Carolina was struggling with Citadel but eventually took a big lead. When watching games like this I've noticed the small school tend to beat themselves by making stupid mistakes. Speaking to some players before playing an SEC school they were very intimidated just because it was the "SEC" and the following year they lost to an FBS school because of stupid mistakes and the game was much closer than the score indicated.

and whats the deal with SEC teams playing so many small schools? It seems like every team has quite a few cupcakes on their schedule. Most teams usually play a weak team to start of the schedule, but the SEC usually schedules them in between SEC opponents, maybe other conferences should start doing that as well. Alabama played Kent St to open up the season then one out of conference opponent that is tough, Penn St, then North Texas. Then a stretch of games against SEC opponents, some crappy like Ole Miss and Miss St, they probably figured Vanderbilt was a push over this year but they have been better than previous years and now Georgia Southern.

Nebraska got screwed on a roughing the punter call. It should have been running into the punter. Man it sucks for Pelini, he is always getting screwed with calls in big games.

Yeah, a lot of FCS teams holding their own vs SEC teams today. I noticed that most of those FCS teams run the ball a lot, and they are getting good yardage against these SEC teams who supposedly have the best defenses.

Same thing with Western Kentucky vs LSU last week. WK was keeping it close and playing tough but then made some boneheaded mistakes that they couldn't afford to do against LSU and LSU eventually pulled away with it.

I don't really watch much college football, so I don't know, but how did SEC teams get a reputation as being the best?

Was this reputation forged when these schools were all or mostly White? Were they powerhouses back then?

Or, is their "powerhouse" status the result of them being mostly Black nowadays?

At any rate, I have no clue how the bowl-system works in college football. With all the money being thrown about everywhere it would be nice if there were a playoff system similar to the NFL.

It's probably totally impractical, but it makes for nice wishful thinking. The "national champion" might not always be the consensus "best" team in the country, and it seems like a lot of politics play a part in deciding who get sto play against whom.

Texas A&M beats Kansas 61-7. Ryan Swope finished the day with 137 yards on 9 receptions and 2 touchdowns. Kale Pick on Kansas had 5 receptions for 46 yards. These 2 lead in receiving yards for their respective teams.
