Carl Froch Retires

So Carl finally makes a decision after a year of him hemming and hawing and finally says he'll hang
em up and work as a broadcaster for British SKY SPORTS. This past year he turned down proposals from Andre Ward, Bernard Hopkins, and Golovokin that I am aware of -possibly others. He's a very good fighter with a very good resume; he's not great just very good. I believe Calzaghe would have boxed his ears off. Some of you may like him but I always wrote here I think he's a prick and I won't miss him.

I do respect Froch for his achievements, but I've never really been a supporter of his and he always came off as being weird. His KOs over Taylor, Bute, and Groves were good, as were his decisions over Pascal, Abraham, Dirrell, and Kessler. I was a huge Bute and Abraham fan and in both cases I was rooting for them but Froch won comprehensively. Froch ' s TKO win over Bute is probably the most disappointed I've ever been after watching a fight. I really thought Bute would take him, but Bute proved to be a bit softer than I thought he was.

I agree with your comments. He's very good but not great. Calzaghe would have outboxed him, GGG out muscles him, and Kovalev would have killed him in 6 rounds (just look at their common opponent Pascal).

It also looks very silly on Froch ' s part. A few days ago he was insulting GGG on twitter, GGG ' S manager sent Froch a contract and Froch didn't sign then just retires. Good choice. GGG beats him, Kovalev would have annihilated him.

He never turned down Ward.Where did you get that from?So Ward was willing to come to the UK because he certainly wasn't 2 to 3 years ago when Froch seemed to hit his peak in them fights with Bute and Kessler and was calling for the Ward rematch in the UK.

Froch is a fighter clearly in decline at 38.He was out boxed badly in both Groves fights the second one was worse than the first he just landed a spectacular knockout punch that papered over the cracks but the Froch that beat Bute with the size advantage,punch,chin,intelligence,power and fitness would have a good shot v Golovkin imo.Prime Kessler would have a great shot as well.

Froch is without question a top 10 super middle of all time. I likr his swagger, and toughness, but didnt like his disrespect of Calzaghe. He acted like he would have just knocked Joe out, and thats ludicrous. Clazaghe would have won every round, and Froch might not have hit him the whole fight.

Still he is a 3 time title holder. He ended a great boxer, Bute, when he destroyed his confidence. He has thrilling wins over Pascal, and Taylor who are both world class. He was a hard man, and a proper fighter, and Im glad he has retired. If you watch his biography on "A Sporting Life" he clearly has changed since the birth of his kids, and isnt a killer anymore. It was time for the Cobra to hang em up.

Froch was a good to great fighter with lot of grit. His only blemish was his decision loss to Ward. Other than that he had an outstanding career. Enjoy your retirement

I read a few threads on Boxingscene months ago where Froch said a Ward fight was, I paraphrase, "...a waste of time as I would likely lose a decision anyway". If you check out old threads on Froch on the net you'll find it. This had nothing to do with courage, he was being realistic. I've never criticized Froch's courage, just his words about his fellow man and opponents.

He is a future hall of fame member(a quality one unlike Bowe and some others). I always found his style puzzling as on paper in his big fights aside from his Glen Johnson win and Taylor he always seemed to be the under dog because of his somewhat unorthodox boxer puncher style, which resembled a more crude slugger type like Iran Barkley.

I don't hold the last year of waffling against Froch as he is 38 and has been through many wars. I think he was looking for a retirement cheque that he could win(unlike say Shannon Briggs) that would be worth his time. I think he surveyed the landscape and thought Degale didn't bring enough money to the table, Julio Jr. wasn't serious enough about the fight and GGG wasn't worth the risk for good but not great money so he decided to retire. Hopefully he stays retired and doesn't get the itch to return. Bon Voyage....
