Saturday is fightnight.Joe Calzaghe takes on Jeff Lacy in a unification bout.This fight was a long time coming and it's put up or shut-up for Joe.I think this one is a toss-up,but I'm going with Calzaghe.He has a little more speed and more experience and that could get him over the hump.Joe has to be weary of Lacy's power as he might try to get Joe out of there early.The card starts at 9:00 P.M. on Showtime.

If Calzaghe can weather the initial storm I think he can put Lacy on his ass in the later rounds to win the fight. I just hope Calzaghe does'nt try and go toe to toe with Lacy early.

Lacy must be on some kind of steroids as I have never seen a middleweight pack that ammount of muscle mass on a 5'9 frame.

This fight is big,its shown live in the States and is live on terrestrial television in Britain.Millions of people are tuning in to watch this fight so i am praying Joe comes through and is not knocked out.For me the fights a tossup.Calzaghe has good advantages.He's taller and posseses very quick hands,has decent power and can take a good shot.Lacy also has good power and i would give him an advantage in this area.
The result of the fight for me depends on Joe.He can sometimes get hotheaded and decide to go toe to toe when he dosnt need to,and against someone with the power of Lacy this will be a big mistake.The good news is that he's recognised this stating he will use his advantages in speed and movement to 'box Lacy's head off' and not risk standing toe to toe with a power puncher like Lacy.If Joe gets his southpaw jab going,use plenty of speed and movement and remain disciplined then he should win this easily on points or late stopage.Over a number of rounds i can see him really busting Lacy up boxing this way but it all depends on whether he can stick to this game plan.

This fight is speed,skills(joe) v.s power,strength(lacy).It similar to Klitschko v.s Peter somewhat.Joe has exceptional handspeed and quickness.He needs to jab and jab at lacy left eye.lacy has a very bad swelling problem towards the left of his eye.For joe C. to win just jab at that spot hit him with combinations and move.keep moving and do not stand toe to toe with lacy.lacy has a devasting over hand left.Joe C. should be able to box lacy's ears off and win a comfortable UD or late TKO(severe swelling).Go Joe C.
What a big night for CF..the boxing match between Calzaghe and Lacy...ufc 58 tonight between Frnaklin and Lossaiu(undercard matches too between black and white fighters) and the duke -unc battle I'm watching right now full of good white athletes.

Calzaghe beat Lacy like a rented mule! Lacy was never even in the fight. Joe bobbed, weaved and outboxed Lacy on the inside and outside using vicious uppercut's to put Lacy back on his heals and then finish his flurry with hooks to the body and head. It was a onesided beating and I now see why Roy Jones jr. didn't show any interest in fighting him. By the way, did anyone else hear that mudshark screaming during the entire fight "hit him Jeff!" I would have hated to pay good money for front row seats just have this skank screaming for her pet

Well you must have all heard or saw the fight by now. The fight was so one sided that I don't think any of the other champs will want to fight Joe now. But that Danish lad kessler was in the crowd so maybe thats his next fight!

Just reading the sunday papers here in the UK the fight was to late for any Lacy vs Calzaghe coverage to be printed. But read that Tysons reffin some cagefighting matches over here soon and is scared of the uk football fans saying he saw a load of fans fighting after a game and said it was worse then the ghetto he's from. What a cheeky fool, us footy fans can bash when we have too but to compare us to that ghetto trash, cheeky very cheeky.

I agree with you Devans. Wasn't funny at all. From all the accounts I have heard, Jeff took his beating like a man and hung in there throwing bombs at Joe all night and doesn't deserve to be compared to a slave. Comments about "runaway slave" beatdowns will not attract more people to this site.

But I will agree with you on one thing, at least Lacy went for the KO in round 12, unlike his counterpart in the UFC, who just wanted to ride out the fight til the last bell.
And if we can't say "he beat him like a runaway slave," can we still say "he beat him like a red-headed step child?" I dare say that all redheads and step children alike should be equally offended, if so!
