It's Nathan Meikle who had more than a few catches. They also have Joe Semanoff who is a RB. He actually played quite a bit earlier in the year. Kevin Curtis is playing for the St. Louis Rams now. I'm not sure what the future holds for Soelberg, since he has been hurt all year. All in all, a decent year for BYU, but one that could have been easily 8-4. They will improve next year.

Joe Semanoff's only a sophomore so he might become a primary
back. It is Nathan Meikle, oops. He's a primary receiver,
but not a back. He's a utilized receiver. I didn't mean to
say he was underused. I just meant to say BYU didn't have a lot
of active white ball carriers. I'm new to posting.

No problem, freedom! Meikle was used a little as an H-Back this year, but mainly as a receiver. I know BYU is supposed to be getting a freshman black RB next month. Hopefully they will start back recruiting white RB's more. Most Utah RB's are white in HS, so if they recruit in Utah, the chances are good, if they give the whites a shot.

BYU signed 25 total so far this year. All but one is mormon. Here are the whites and non blacks. The bad news is that all the DB's recruited were black, except for maybe 1. The use of Polynesians on the D and O line seems to be continuing, maybe even increasing. I sure hope they get some more white DB's and RB's. I hope Bronco doesn't go Caste on us. 20 or 21 out of 25 are white.

BYU is in the middle of spring practice right now. They play the spring ending scrimmage on April 15. It looks as though the only position that may be getting blacker next season is linebacker. RB's are 1 black, 2 polynesians, and 1 white. CB's look like 1 white and 1 black so far, just like last year. WR's are all white except for 1. I plan to attend the scrimmage, so I'll write more then.

I don't think we should consider the Polynesians "White" in any sense. They are clearly a blend of Asian and black, with a heavy tendency toward the black end of the spectrum.

Still, I give BYU credit for supporting their own kind (for the most part).

I was not able to make it to the scrimmage, but here's the essential info from it.

PROVO, Utah (April 15, 2006) - With over 10,000 spectators in attendance for the 33rd annual Blue and White Game, the Cougars came out strong on both sides of the ball as both the offense and defense made big plays during Saturday's 48-play scrimmage.

"The intent was not to win the scrimmage but to develop depth and not have anyone get hurt," said head coach Bronco Mendenhall.

The goals of the Cougar staff were achieved as no one got hurt and everyone on the team had a chance to play.

The first score came on an 11-play, 65-yard drive that ended on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Jason Beck to Andrew George.

"Fui [Vakapuna] made the most impact today, just as he has all spring," said Mendenhall.

Vakapuna rushed four times for 34 yards and scored one touchdown, a 10 yard run for the game's second score.

"I'm very excited about being in this offense," said Vakapuna. "It's like being back in the glory days. Being back at LaVell Edwards Stadium and feeling the power that is here is great."

Sophomore Wayne Latu had two touchdowns, including a two-yard run and a 12-yard run. He finished the day with eight rushes for 37 yards.

David Nixon led the defense with four solo takedowns and one sack.

"It felt really good to be out here on this beautiful day," Nixon said. "We had fun and that's the most important part of the scrimmage. Our defense is really clicking. This spring season is looking good defensively and makes me excited for the fall season."

The crowd went wild as backup quarterback Jason Beck was under pressure and completed a 30-yard pass to Zac Collie on the 34th play, bringing the offense to the 20-yard line. Latu capped the drive with his first touchdown.

"The fans are excited about the season," Beck said. "We definitely want to go out there and make the best of it this year."

"It's nice to be here in the stadium and good to be one day closer to fall," Mendenhall said.

The Cougars look forward to their opening game against the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz. on September 2 and the first home game September 9 at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Polynesians are there own seperate race Knight. Am Samoa and Tonga are very Morman countries so they recruit heavily from there. I think mormons are nearly as weird as scientologists, but are harmless. Its good to see them playing whites at skilled positions when they deserve to.
