Here's an artist they can't deny, Buddy Holly! Holly set the standard for Rock 'n' Roll Bands by writing, producing, and performing his own songs in his teens and early twenties! Holly managed to bridge the racial divide, by using his "own" country, rockabilly, and rhythm and blues roots that he created, not by being influenced by anyone! Holly is widely regarded as the most influential musician in Rock & Roll history!

As previously mentioned he was one of the first write, produce, and perform his own songs. His other firsts and innovations include, being the first along with his 3-piece band the "Crickets" all-white band to perform at the Apollo!. His band was self-contained, what you heard on the record is what you heard live.

He, Holly was one of the first to use overdubbing when one track recording was the norm. He was also the first to use strings and orchestra's on a rock 'n' roll record.

Holly has influenced everyone from Elvis, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, even Weezer as well as numerous others. I invite everyone here to research and listen, really listen, to Holly's music, it's innovative and genius for someone so young. His career lasted all of 18 months!

Sadly, Buddy Holly died at the age of 22 in an airplane crash along with Ritchie Valens, 17 and J.P. "The Big Bopper," Richardson 29, on February 3, 1959. A day termed, "The Day the Music Died," in Don Mclean's famous song.

Here's his first hit, "That'll Be the Day,"! Enjoy!

Buddy Holly married a Puerto Rican girl. He and his family were on good term with Little Richard. The friendship lasted even after Buddy's death. Buddy toured supporting Sam Cooke and he stayed the same segregated places as Sam Coke. By today's standards, Buddy is a politically correct liberal.
Budd was the first to write his material. He alo had control of the recording studio. He was an original and his career was just starting.

Since it's ice cream truck season, allow me to point out the Mister Softee suits and bowties being worn by Holly and the Crickets in that vid.
