Congratulations to Marty Brodeur for surpassing Patrick Roy's career mark for wins by a goaltender with his 552nd victory.

At just 36, far fromfinished for a goalie, who knows how many more wins are ahead for him.

Roy never had the opportunity to win shoot-outs. They had ties in his day. Also, I don't understand why they don't count playoff games in all these stats. Even the idea of crediting a goalie with a win is more of an American thing. (Probably from baseball). Historically Canadians didn't do that.

That all said Brodeur has been amazingly consistent for about a decade and a half. Incredible. He's also a decent guy and excellent role model unlike the stars of some other sports.

Congrats to Marty! I will always remember him also for his awesome play for team Canada when they beat the U.S in the 2002 Olympics. I had to root for Canada over the U.S, as a dual citizen, in hockey guys. Hockey is absolutely huge north of the border.

Brodeur is one of my favorites, because he still keeps the net the "old-fashioned" way. Marty uses angles, and then just gets hit by the puck, with minimal movement. Having goalied a bit, I prefer this to the "butterfly" style, which seems to have rapidly proliferated. I don't have a deep understanding of it, but constantly dropping to your knees seems counterproductive, as it gives you a lower profile and less movement possibilities.

Correct me if I'm wrong?

True. I don't like the way shootouts and the way the NHL insists on one win column and two loss columns have watered down individual and team records.

But some of the benefit of shootout wins for Brodeur compared to Royis evened out byBrodeur losing an entire season due to the lockout.
