Best known as a pro wrestling star for the WWE, Brock Lesnar (Pictures) stormed his way into mixed martial arts in June, making his professional debut on K-1's "Dynamite!! USA" card at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

On the strength of his 69-second trouncing of Min Soo Kim (Pictures), the physically gifted heavyweight, who in 2000 was an NCAA champion wrestler for the University of Minnesota, has entered the UFC.

"If you want to go with the NFL of the fighting game, it's the UFC, and it was an easy choice for me," said Lesnar in a prepared statement. "Obviously I don't think I'm ready for a title shot right away, but I will be there, and I'm not gonna turn down any opponent because I'm here to prove myself. I'm not here to pick and choose my fights. I'll fight whomever they want. I don't make the fights; that's not my job. I've got one job to do and that's to fight."

Lesnar makes his home out of Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn., and works with Sean Sherk (Pictures)'s trainer Greg Nelson.

"For me, my amateur roots and everything, I've always loved this sport," said Lesnar during Saturday's UFC 77 broadcast from Cincinnati, Ohio, where he watched from cage-side. "I've always wanted to participate in it, and I thank God that I'm able to do this."

No date or opponent was announced for the 30-year-old Lesnar's UFC debut.

"I don't think there are any other pro wrestlers that can make the transition to MMA, except for Brock Lesnar (Pictures)," UFC president Dana White was quoted as saying in a prepared statement. "And if you look at his amateur wrestling credentials, his size, and what he's done, this guy can end up being a force in the heavyweight division of the UFC."

Lesnar has the size but I'll reserve judgement until I see him fight a couple of times. His first fight in Elite extreme didn't last long enough to showcase any skill.

I think Lesnar has all the natural attributes to be an overpowering, dominant, relentless hellraiser in the cage. Only time will tell. However, he has a insane amount of raw power, and a sh*tload of explosive speed to go with it.

There is no question that Brock can wrestle with anyone. He could probably take down anyone at just about will in the UFC, it would be a matter of if he could finish or not. I have also heard he has a really short reach for a guy his size so it will be interesting to see what his stand up is like. I expect Brock's early fights to be boring as all hell, with him winning on take downs and limiting the action if he is to win. It will also be interesting if he decides to go for that safe kind of strategy like Josh Koscheck (spelling?) did or if he will try to prove that he can stand up like Matt Hamel.

I think he needs to ground and pound guys to win. Guys with his build generally are horrible boxers and while they look like gods have poor stamina and glass jaws. I think he should work on his dirty boxing to take on the elite of the MMA world.

Lesnar won the 2000 NCAA wrestling championship as a heavyweight after placing second in 1999. Prior to joining the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Lesnar also wrestled at Bismarck State College in Bismarck, North Dakota. Lesnar finished his amateur career as a four-time all-American, two-time big-ten Champion, and the 2000 NCAA heavyweight champion with a record of 106-5 overall in four years of college.

Considering that others with less experience and less prestigious wrestling backgrounds have gone on to be good fighters, it isn't that hard to believe that Lesnar has the skills, size, and strength to be a dominant force in the heavyweight ranks. If he decides to augment his wrestling background further with Muay Thai and BJJ, he will certainly be a top contender. I don't see why anyone would doubt it.

I guess we will find out the minute someone catches him with a good overhand right or takes him into the fifth round of a grueling back and forth war. Match him up with a Gonzaga or Coleman and let's see how he fare's.

. Mir is a hell of a tactician but Lesnar is damn near superhuman in regards to natural attributes. With his wrestling pedigree, stregnth, speed, and agility he would be a tough cookie for anyone in the world NOW, that includes Fedor Emelianenko

Agreed. If I was going to design the "Ultimate Fighter", he would look like Brock Lesnar.

I hope Mir wins. Lesnar has always had attitude problems goingback to his days at Minnasota. I was glad when Pats guard kicked the crap out of him on the mat in the 1999 NCAA Championship. also he is not a natural athelete he is well know for doing steriods and having fits of rage.

This is a tough first matchup for Lesnar in the UFC. Depending on which Mir shows up, he could easily defeat Lesnar. Mir the Man shows up, he subs Lesnar from the bottom; Mir the Can shows up, Lesnar grounds and pounds him into oblivion.

After what happened to Cro Cop, I think Dana has learned that you can't give guys tune up fights in the UFC. Lesnar is a big name, what would happen to their investment should Lesnar lose to someone like Jake O'Brien? They have to throw him in the mix right away.

My belief that Lesnar should do well in the UFC is based on his NCAA wrestling experience, not his 'experience' in the WWE. I'm proud to say I know next to nothing about WWE, and what I do know comes from off-hand comments by posters on this forum and a couple of other mixed martial arts boards.

I think alotta folks don't realize the freakish athletic ability and brute strength of Lesnar. Many WWE superstars (Big Show, Batista) said (in shoot interviews) Lesnar's strength was off the scale. While with the Vikings, Brock ran a 4.6 40 yard dash, rep'd out 225 like 30+ times and posted a 35+ vertical leap. His functional strength is what's scary. He supposedly man-handled Paul "Big Show" Wight in a shoot wrestling match (off-camera). Even if Big Show isn't 7'2 500 lbs (as he's billed), he's still a monsterous human being (probably 6'11, 460-485). Even Batista relented that Brock would literally tear his arm off in an arm wrestling match. Bill Goldberg said that Min Soo Kim had no idea of the strength and power of Lesnar. His strength and athletic ability are extremely high. He might be able to use brute force to get out of the locks Frank Mir will try to put on him.
