Brian Hartline is sort of a cult hero down here. Despite the massive amount of DWF's that would like nothing more than to blacken up the team, Hartline is the one consistent that everybody wants to see stick around. One thing I will say about the Miami fanbase, despite many of them being DWF's is that thugs are not popular down here. That is why Brandon Marshall and Vontae Davis were sent packing. New head coach Joe Philbin has stated that he would like to see more high character guys on his team. We can only hope that is code speak for more "white guys" But then again, we have caste whore Jeff Ireland making the picks so who knows what is going to happen with the Fins.
none of the fans on the link Don posted seem to want him as a number 1 guy, most don't even think he is a good number 2, it seems the agreement is that he would be a solid number 3 guy. Most want to "erase" the 200+ yard game he had and not count it like "if it weren't for that he wouldn't have", and talk about the blown coverage etc. Defenses have blown coverages all the time yet only 15 players have had better receiving games. Football outsiders did a thing the other year that showed that a majority of DeSean Jackson's yards came from blown coverage and he led the league by getting yards from mistakes by the defense. Yet he isn't a questioned "number 1" receiver, with 2 tds this year (that also seems to be a big thing, Hartline's lack of tds), but from what I have seen the team runs on him on too many possession receiver routes.

The reason the DWF's down here don't see Hartline as a #1 guy is because the rest of the Dolphins receivers are so piss poor that all the opposing teams have to do is double cover him and you've essentially shut down the Dolphins passing attack. I would like to see the Dolphins bring in another receiver, either in FA or in the draft, not to replace Hartline but rather someone to compliment him. I can see Hartline putting up HUGE numbers if he wasn't being double teamed all the time. He's also built quite the chemistry with Ryan Tannehill and has become his go to guy. I could see a guy like Ryan Swope being drafted by the Fins, making him and Hartline one of the best one-two receiver punches in the league.

That's why I don't mind the Dolphins drafting a black receiver this draft. As long as Hartline is still a starter it won't bother me at all. The media can call him a number 2 receiver and the afflete the main guy all they want. He will still be playing on the outside and put up even better numbers than this year.

If I recall correctly Hatline was never even the # 1 option for Ohio State either. He was lightly recruited as Sanzenbacher was and with the entrenched caste system in place they BOTH still made NFl rosters.
I think the DWF's think if you are white and under 6'4" you are automatically labeled a slot guy and only get open because of guile and intelligence. I am surprised more Miami fans don't want to see Hartline in the " Welker " role next year.

heres a video I made of his 1k season, one play shouldn't be on there but oh well, also has Tannehil running a nice 30 yarder, which shows he should be running some read option.

Hartline needs to work on his strength a little bit, it seems he gets knocked down a little too easy with arm tackles, maybe add some muscle to his legs.

Good hands, speed, footwork, and presumably routes. But does seem to go down immediately upon contact. Maybe one broken tackle in 5 minutes of footage. He definitely should work on his strength.

5 years/30.775 Million (12.5M guaranteed)

Hartline finally gets some recognition, although now people are saying it is too much money for him. Some comments via twitter:

A writer from Rotoworld, Adam Levitan; "$30.775 million seems really high for a guy who has six touchdowns in four NFL seasons. Congrats to Brian Hartline".

Chris Wesseling, writer for NFL.com; "Rosenhaus is really good at his job". Also, "Jordy Nelson -- the player Hartline would be if he was a comic book hero -- signed for $13.989M over 4 years with $5M guaranteed."

Evan Silva, Senior Editor for Rotoworld; "$31-million WR Brian Hartline racked up 24% of his yards & 100% of his touchdowns in one game last year.

The Dolphins signed Brian to a 5 year $30.777 million contract with $12.5 million guaranteed. I was going to post the Weenieworld report on the deal but it ripped Hartline mercilessly. So I went to NBC Sports' report and every single comment after it was a DWF criticizing the deal, so I'll just post the contract numbers.

I'm glad for Hartline. He had a great season last year considering the Dolphins had no one else in the passing game to throw to and a rookie QB starting. If they get a solid outside WR opposite Hartline, he'll continue to dumbfound the always easily dumfoundable DWFs and media hacks.

Now, we need the Patriots to sign Welker, and Amendola to find a good team to sign with, and hopefully Edelman and Collie as well. . .

I agree that Jordy Nelson is woefully underpaid.

Hartline's one weak stat in an otherwise very fine breakout season was his lack of touchdown receptions, as the media repeats ad nauseum. But Miami has had a weak passing attack since before they drafted Hartline in '09. In Brian's four seasons with the Dolphins the team has ranked 27th, 27th, 18th, and 30th in passing TDs. During two of those years ballhog Brandon Marshall was on the team, and he only scored 9 TDs total those two seasons. You have to go back to 2005 to find the last time Miami had more than 20 passing TDs. That was also the last time they ranked in the top half of the league in passing TDs.

Hartline does need to improve his after the catch yardage, but the lack of TDs is because of a weak passing attack, especially in the redzone, and because he was the only legit receiving option last season. But Ryan Tannehill looks like a keeper, and if the team signs Mike Wallace or Greg Jennings, I would expect Hartline to tally a respectable number of touchdowns this coming season while also maintaining his receptions and yardage at a high level.

one thing he could work on besides strength is route running, I don't know if he is raw or if it was play calling, or lack of the coach's faith, but it seemed like he ran only 2 or 3 routes for most plays, it got kind of predictable which might be the reason for his inconsistency throughout the season, the big plays that he made in the 200+ yard game had more variety. I hate when people say that he is a great route runner, he may be, what thats not what he is showing right now, he is getting by on pure athleticism, so hes not getting by on "crafty route running". Some coaches aren't good at developing players, so maybe he can get some work in on the offseason.

Hartline is being mocked by multiple sites such as Waltefootball and our favorite Weenieworld. He's supposedly overpaid with this new contract and the fact that he picked up about a quarter of his total receiving yards last year in one game is some sort of an issue. If he stays healthy there is no doubt in my mind he improves even more. I am predicting he has about 1,200 receiving yards next season because the receiving corps will be improved and Tannehill will have a year of experience under his belt.

The DWF's on Dolphins message boards are complaining that we overpaid but I can't tell you how happy I am to have him returning for next year. What worries me however is that both Jake Long and Anthony Fasano are free agents and might not be back and that our caste GM Jeff Ireland is targeting Jared Cook as Fasano's replacement. If our draft this year is as coal black as our draft last year (which I expect it to be) I don't see good things in this teams future

Yesterday "Fox and Friends" on the Foxnews Network interviewed Brian regarding his big contract and his new business, a drive through convinence store. Great interview.

Its great knowing how our guys invest their wealth, rather than "making it rain" at a strip club. Congrats Brian. :clap2:

When you are raised in a ghetto, I assume when some of these people get $ they like to live a fast life so to speak. It could be cultural but that is a whole can of worms I don't feel like opening.

I read about Hartline working in a drive thru convenience store in Ohio during the offseason in the Miami Herald a few days ago. Apparently he's a part owner which means he's obviously invested his money wisely. I would like to see him spend his entire career in Miami and perhaps start a business here. He seems like a stand up guy and we need more people like that.

Lets hope Brian's store only caters to those high motor oil and lunch pail buyers.:eyebrows:

Probably not I'm sure most of his income comes from EBT cards and food stamps.. Could be wrong though, depends on the neighborhood!

My barber personally knows Mr. Hartline and his wife, he's always saying nice things about them.

Within the last two years, here are some current/former NFL players I have played against in some basketball pick up games:

Greg Camarillo (nice guy)
Devon Bess (nice guy)
Chris Chambers (nice guy, plays a team game)
Thomas Jones (cool guy, physical, and will knock someone out lol)
Daunte Culpepper (diva, but does mingle with some locals)
Chad Johnson (very down to Earth)

I agree with this article. The DWFs and pundits are all expecting Hartline's receiving totals to decline this year with the signing of Mike Wallace, Dustin Keller and Brandon Gibson, but that means Brian won't be the main receiving threat like he was last season and won't be double covered nearly as often. Gibson is just an average receiver, probably isn't even an improvement on Davone Bess (but of course supposedly has unrealized "upside"), but Wallace is in theory a big upgrade. I'll be surprised if Hartline doesn't come close or exceed last year's receptions and yards, and with more touchdowns, hopefully at least 6.

Brian Hartline Set To Have Breakout Season in 2013

by Tony Graham

Brian Hartline was a 2009 fourth round draft pick out of Ohio State. Critics of the 2012 Miami Dolphins, unfairly grouped him under a label that read “The Worst Receiving Corp In NFL”. Hartline was never selected or projected to be the main receiving option of the Dolphin offense. Despite that fact, he has put up relatively respectable numbers. He has also managed to survive a regime change that came with a change in offensive philosophy. Over the offseason the team re-signed Hartline to a five-year, $30M contract instead of letting him hit the free agent market.

Dolphins fans should be excited about the 2013 Hartline. In 2012 he was the receiver that drew the defenses attention. The opponent’s best corner always had Hartline as his assignment, and there are a lot of players who would have crumbled under that pressure and turned in an off year. However, Hartline turned his career best year with 74 catches and 1083 yards and earned honors as a Pro Bowl alternate. He did this in a new offense with a rookie QB.

His detractors would point out that 23% of those yards and his lone touchdown came in week 4 against the Arizona Cardinals. Last I checked the Cardinals are an NFL team, and no other receivers had that level of success against them in the season. Hartline’s value is in his route running, body positioning and hands. He is very efficient, only dropping five of the catchable passes thrown his way.

I know it sounds like he already had his breakout season in 2012, but this is the season where life as a Dolphin receiver is going to be different for Hartline. Now defenses have to game plan for Mike Wallace, Dustin Keller and Brandon Gibson. In addition to that, they have to be concerned about a running game that promises to be more explosive this year with upgrades to the offensive line as well as the selection of Mike Gillislee in the draft. It looks like Hartline is not going to see the other team’s best corner, and the play action passing will be so much more potent.

QB Ryan Tannehill has a season under his belt, and he and Hartline have already established a rapport. Tannehill won’t be the only one to benefit from the new weapons; look for Hartline to benefit as well.

Gibson will be playing the slot and Wallace is a head case who has straight line speed but nothing else. Provided he stays healthy Hartline is a lock for a 1,000 yards again. He just needs to be more consistent as he disappeared during some games last season. Hopefully that won't be the case with a better receiving corps this year.

Brian Hartline and the dolphins play the cowboys this Sunday Night in the Hall of Fame Game. I'm hoping to see him have another thousand yard season. Miami is going to be a fun team to watch. Tannehill continues to improve and that can only help Hartline.
