With the rampant caste system in play for decades now, I would have figured affletes would have held the majority for about 10-15 years now. I never looked into the numbers, so this is a little surprising (that afroletes are just now the majority).

Blacks gain majority on Div. I football rosters

The Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS â€" A new NCAA report shows that black football players outnumber whites on Division I teams for the first time since the survey began more than a decade ago.

The annual Race and Ethnicity Report released this week found that 45.8 percent of football players in the NCAA's top division were black in 2009-10, compared with 45.1 percent who were white. The statistics cover both Division I divisions.

The NCAA began tracking athletes' race and ethnicity in 1999. That year, 51.3 percent of Division I football players were white and 39.5 percent were black.

In Division I men's basketball, black athletes account for nearly 61 percent of participants, compared to 55 percent in 1999.

Other sports saw less significant changes over the 10-year period. More than 80 percent of NCAA baseball players and wrestlers remain white, for example.

This is a hopeful statistic, a sign that progress is being made in giving equal opportunities to blacks in sports..NOT!

I have tracked these numbers for several SEC teams for a while and I knew it would soon happen on a national level. Division 1 starters have been majority black now for almost 15 years now. Continual caste recruiting classes have taken their toll on the rosters since then, as many teams feature nearly coal black defensive rosters.

Among the true contenders ie top 25 teams I suspect they have been majority Black starter wise for at least 20 to 25 years. Roster wise it's fairly recent as many of the walk-ons are still usually White and many have familial ties to the schools that they play for.

Article should say a plurality, not majority, as a majority means over half.

Good point, although most teams just have blacks and Whites. Of course this is different out west.

This is bad news for all white players looking to join the college ranks.

Why is this bad news for all white players? They are about to get a great opportunity to play college football, where after all these years they still have the chance. Maybe we just need to encourage more white players to take on the challenge and go D1. If we do our part encouraging, convincing as DixieDestroyer says everyone with eyes to see and ears to hear, the numbers can turn around. Remember a lot of the guys playing D1 baseball and wrestling were also good football players in high school. Maybe we should urge them to go the football route.
