Sherdog lists welterweight Ben Askren as one of their "Fighters to Watch in the Next Decade". Ben was a 4 time All-American, 2 time NCAA national champion (& 2 time runner-up) at Missouri. He won the the Dan Hodge Trophy (wrestling's equivalent of the Heisman) twice and the Rev Wrestler of the Year. Askren went 42-0 his senior year & finished with a record of 153-8, with 91 of those victories coming by way of pin-fall (3rd all-time NCAA DI) pins list. Askren was also nominated for an ESPY in 2007 in the category Best Male College Athlete.

Askren competed at the 74 kg. weight class in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Askren won his first match via pin against Hungarian István Veréb. In his round of 8 match he lost to Cuba's Ivan Fundora Zaldivar 1-3 0-4. The Cuban's loss to Russia's Buvaisar Saitiev in the quarterfinal round ended Askren's hopes to medal at the 2008 games. He may pursue the 2012 Olympics.

In MMA, Ben's 3-0 (2 subs & 1 TKO (punches)) & currently fighting for Bellator Fighting Championships (BFC) at Welterweight. Like yours truly, he's a Purple Belt in BJJ. He looks to have an outstanding career if he continues to hone his BJJ & striking skills.

Ben's younger brother Max just won the NCAA (wrestling) title at 184 lbs (for Missouri). Max (a Senior) is a 3x All-American. Hopefully, Max will join Ben as an MMA fighter. MMA is a next-step/"pro" option for college wrestlers who want to continue their athletic career...thanks to the meteoric rise of MMA the last few years. Former NCAA champs like Mark Coleman, Brock Lesnar, Josh Rosholt, Josh Koscheck & Johny Hendricks have transitioned well into MMA.

I watched the NCAA wrestling finals yesterday and every champion was white and only one black even made the finals and he was destroyed. It was a enjoyable day from a caste awareness perspective with Klitchko winning, St. Mary's and Northern Iowa advancing and watching all the white men dominate the wrestling finals.

Deal in the works to finally bring welterweight Ben Askren to UFC. Askren is an unbelievable wrestler. He’s still undefeated in MMA. He’s 33, so this has been a long time coming, but I will definitely watch.

I’d love to see “Funky” Ben win a UFC title. He’s been a top notch fighter for years now. :)

Askren had a tough 1st matchup in "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler. Unfortunately his UFC debut was mired in controversy..

Askren fights Paul Tomorrow if anyone cares, a joke fight but if Paul wins the MMA world won't be too happy.

There are some pretty loathsome live performances in this event, not sure when the main event will start.

Jake Paul knocks out Ben Askren in under a minute, I knew that Paul could win but this emphatically? I'm surprised.

People are saying dive.

I didn't know Askren by name as of this week, so I'm pretty out of the loop. But the circles where I'd seen the fight discussed all figured Paul would be paying Askren as an employee. Sounds like he successfully rendered his service, lol.

No dive Askren can't box and probably can't take a great punch. I can't truly say he has a glass jaw because he fought a guy a full size larger than him.

Concerning the knockdown he was clearly glassy eyed when he rose and a novice boxer so the referee was within his rights to stop the fight. Now if this was a world championship fight Askren's corner would have been howling at the moon as the stoppage was similar to Lewis vs McCall I.

As for the PPV you get what you paid for and it wasn't much as all of the fighters were novice fighters less the Prograis vs Redkach fight but Redkach didn't want to lose honorably and tried to claim a groin strike when the replay showed a brush against his kidney/rib area.

PS the tribute to DMX summed up this garbage card, a tribute to a man who beat women, abused narcotics and burnt through more money than the guys who are financing Triller...

LOL I'm putting together a petition to evict Askren of his rights as a Wisconsinite. Pathetic, lost to a pretty boy, YouTube Star.

He let a lot of people down. All he really had to do was protect himself for 3-4 rounds til the pretty boy punched himself out. Askren seemed to put very little effort or thought into this. He could have derailed a night of glorification of whiggers, rappers and all around douche bags.

Well, he got a big pay day, now he needs to go away and be forgotten about.
