Bears cut Tanner Gentry despite good preseason and need at WR

In a move meant to help trim their roster down to the required 53 players, the Chicago Bears waived wide receiver Tanner Gentry. Reported first by Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times, this move is arguably the most surprising cut the team has made thus far.
Gentry made a name for himself throughout training camp with his incredible catches. The undrafted rookie out of Wyoming also had a decent preseason, racking up four catches for 77 yards and a touchdown. He quickly became a fan favorite among Bears fans, and, when Chicago cut Victor Cruz, it seemed likely that the rookie’s spot on the 53-man roster was safe. However, it appears that this was not the case.
Jahns reported that the Bears are interested on putting him on the practice squad if he clears waivers. That’s likely a big “if”, though. Given how many teams need wide receivers, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a wideout-needy team claim Gentry off of waivers

Screw the Bears for this boneheaded cut. I hope the Packers pick him up and he shoves it in their face twice a year forever. If he was Black he'd probably get to start or at least a good amount of snaps. The purge in this case is outrageous considering his preseason and TRUE upside.

I hope he does not clear waivers, I hope a team who will allow him to stay and earn a spot because of his abilities and preseason numbers but alas he is white...we all know the story..

Gentry might get the anti-white treatment that many good white players get. They get bounced around the league, never getting a real chance and then they're gone.

Maybe with the success the Patriots have had with White receivers teams will give players such as Gentry a better chance.

There needs to be a class action discrimination lawsuit. Teams know they can jerk around white players and get away with paying them peanuts.

I am not a real law junkie so I need to ask, who would do the class action lawsuit and against who exactly?? Sorry if this question is dumb.

This has been brought up numerous times, including by me. The "class" is White football players who believe they've been discriminated against, the defendant(s) would be the NFL (and/or NCAA and/or the alleged "scouting services"). However Tanner Gentry, an undrafted free agent cut at the end of his first NFL training camp, is not the person to make the centerpiece of a case.

Such a class action lawsuit would likely take many years to adjudicate, and would take many millions of dollars in legal fees. And it would take some White football players (and their families) willing to stick their necks out in an intensely anti-White environment and be called "racists," "White supremacists," "nazis" and the rest as there would be no sympathy anywhere from the system and bottomless amounts of hostility. Therein lie the main problems. It's easy to yell "sue," as Americans love to do without understanding how the legal system works, including the reality that the side with the most money and influence almost always wins.

essentially by the time anything could come to fruition, most of the players or player would be out of the league. So if they stay the statue caste quo nothing changes...hmmmm I think if it were negros the whole country would back them and call them libertarians where as if it Whites then they would be outcasts for the rest of their lives including their families. Maybe even found dead in an alley somewhere...It would take all whites even the starters to pull off something like this right down to high school ranks..

The best way to attack it is through the NCAA and scouting services, as the disparity in recruiting and scholarships based on race is starkly visible, but all the same problems still apply, and yes it would drag on for years and years with appeals. The U.S. legal system is designed to protect the status quo, no different than the political system as Donald Trump quickly found out if he was ever serious about "draining the swamp."
