This young sprinter from Portugal caught my eye earlier this year when he ran 20.4? for the 200m.
Today he set a PR of 10.19 in the 100m in Spain. He is 22 years old. I just discovered that his 200m PB is 20.31.
Another young sprinter on the rise.
Let's hope he stays healthy!

Yes he is another dark horse that might semifinal or final if he keeps peaking.

Abrantes has to be one of my favourite sprinters at moment , not because he is fastest or has promise , etc but because like his sprinting technique the most .
He has great front-sided more modern type technique if know what i,m trying to say rather than a more rearwards-extension based technique more common in longer sprints .

he reminds me of livio berruti ,the 200m winner at 1960 olmpics ,my favourite sprinter because you guessed it he has such a beautiful technique.

Welcome to the board jayo1980! I think you will fit in good here with your knowledge of track. Abrantes does have nice form. I've always loved Christian Blums form as well but I have another comparisson for you. I think Christophe Lemaitre runs similar to the now retired Michael Johnson. They both run very straight up. Very upright almost like there wearing a back brace of something. It sometimes seems like they are not going very fast but they both have blinding speed. Christophe does have a way longer stride however. I think stride length is almost essential in an elite sprinter. If you want to get all the way to the top, most of the record holders are elite striders. That is why Christophe and Ramil get me so excited. The sky is the limit!Edited by: white lightning

Abrantes 10.16 with 2.5 wind in the semi-finals of a meet in Spain.
Pickering 10.24 with the same wind.
Let's see what they do in the finals.

3.0 wind.
ABrantes 10.14 for 4th place.
Pickering dead last out of the blocks. Managed to catch-up to one guy to finish 7th in 10.21.

This kid still has potential despite running sub par at the world champs. He shows great speed endurance over the deuce. I like guys who double in the sprints. You don't have to be good at both events. It's great if you are but the 200 meters really helps guys finish that 100 strong. They just seem to be more fun to watch. It takes alot of talent to run both events. Abrantes still has some time to get faster and he will only be 26 in 2012. So he will be in his prime.
