All-Time Best TV Dads

The All-time best TV fathers were; Ben Cartwright of Bonanza, Lucas McCain of The Rifleman, Andy Taylor of The Andy Griffith Show, John Walton of The Waltons and Charles Ingals of Little House on the Prairie.
So why bring this up? Because the youth of America need strong father's who work hard, provide for there families, set a good moral tone in the house. Ben and Lucas were also very tough men who could take care of themselves when things got ugly.
I don't watch prime time televison anymore but from what I have seen White fathers are portrayed as weak, wimpy, no gonads. Young White children don't need this kind of brainwashing.
We need tough, hardworking, money saving, morally upright youth to turn the tide on those who would destroy us.
 
Don't forget about Ward Cleaver on Leave it to Beaver. I always thought he set a pretty good example.
 
I used to watch "Leave it to Beaver" and yes Ward Cleaver seemed to be a good dad, so was Fred MacMurray on My 3 Sons, Robert Young on Father Knows Best.
Ben Cartwright was my all-time favorite-he had a big ranch, lots of money, was tough, had 3 tough sons and a Chinese Cook!!!
 
Worst ever: Michael Keaton of Family Ties.

Red Foreman of That 70's Show

(No, I'm not kidding.)

They TRY to make Red into almost a cartoonish hard-ass, but his toughness, patriotism, and straight-arrow values make him a guy I can't help but like.

Good One! I forgot about him. He can be a real prick sometimes, just like a real Dad, and something you never see on TV. Of course he's playing a chararcter from the past, back when there used to be good Dad's on TV.
 
What about both the guys from My Two Dads???

In the show, the mother of Keanan's character died. The two men who had competed for the woman's affections (played by Reiser and Evigan) before her daughter Nicole was born had been awarded joint custody.

The media has become so feminized that it is doubtful that a show featuring two Fathers would be allowed on. (In fact I don't think I have seen it in reruns for years.)

hey Colonel Reb, he is a family guy and by no means he should be rated as a good dad...
show can be fun at times since they put PC aside and make jokes out of black, jewish, asian, mexican people alike
 
I think we are all forgetting Fred Sanford. A loving father who shared his hard-working family business with his son.

Hey what's the best way to post an image. I'm having trouble. Do you click on image when you post a reply and copy the web address into it? Or do you just copy the image and paste? I've had trouble with both methods. Any ideas?
 
The best way is to right click on the image you want, then copy the url and paste it into the add image function on this site. Sometimes when pics are copyrighted or protected, they will still not show on the board, so you may have to look for one that will work. It is a trial and error thing when this happens.
 
Thanks Colonel, that makes sense. In my attempt a couple posts above I did the right procedure but it must have been copyrighted.

My vote is for Lucas McCain of the "rifleman". The guy was tough, athletic(jumped onto his horse),loyal to his friends, honest and a good example his son Mark. He also wasn't easily fooled by any woman that crossed his path. Unfortunately that's my "fatal flaw"!!!

Well not fatal yet, I hope!

I really liked the Rifleman, and Chuck Conners, but I recently watched a few episodes and noticed that ol' Chuck would kill about five guys every episode. His yearly "kill" total must have been in 3 figures. All in good fun of course!
 
Some of those guys he killed were the same actors he killed in other episodes!! When I was in the national guard..there were black sodiers in my unit who liked and watched the rifleman.

Excellent show.Chuck Connors once said that over the course of theseries it averaged2 kills per episode.
