A waste of time, yes, but one of the main reasons why,is lesser and lesser White hitters in it.Make note of the ratio.

There was a long article about the home run contest in one of today's Pittsburgh papers, but not a word about Jim Thome, nothing about him not being in it or why he was excluded. If he hadn't been injured last year, 2006 would be his 6th straight season of at least 42 HRs. I don't have time to research it right now but I'll bet the number of power hitters who can matchthe kind of output Thome's put togethersince 2001 can be counted on the fingers of one hand. He's one of the very best power hitters of the past 30 years yet it's like he doesn't exist.

Jim turned down the offer to be in the Home Run Derby.
