"See the attached photo, taken July 11, 1975. I was visiting Nicaragua for personal reasons and told a friend that I had watched Arguello’s televised fight in Nov. 1974, when he won the featherweight championship by knocking out the legendary Mexican fighter) Ruben Olivares (I think it’s the first fight shown in the video). Turns out my friend knew Arguello and offered to take me to his training camp, where the photo was taken.

Arguello was very hospitable. In the states he gained a reputation for being respectful and gentlemanly towards his opponents, but in the ring he was lethal. Did you notice how he combined body and head shots so effectively?

His life had a tragic ending. After retiring from the ring he returned to Nicaragua and went into politics. He became mayor of Managua, but was found dead in his office of gunshot wounds. The government claimed it was suicide, but no one believed them."

You can see how gracious Arguello was in the photo with the late great Jim T, or Captain Skull as he called himself. Arguello's boxing career spanned four decades.

I remember watching it like it was yesterday. Epic! Probably in the top five most memorable fights for me. Too bad Pryor cheated.

What was the story with Pryor? I watched the first half of their rematch before. There's a very good video of it on youtube. It was a huge outdoor fight in las vegas and Arguello was the overwhelming crowd favorite. I never saw such nonstop action.

In their first fight, Pryor's corner was caught on tape giving Pryor some juiced up water. It seemed to rejuvenate him and helped him over come Alexis momentum towards the end of the fight. The 1st fight was in Miami. All-time great fight.

There is a special place in hell for cheaters in boxing.

Panama Lewis still trains people he just does it behind the scenes. In fact of around a decade ago he was the house trainer for Don King, now that King's stable of fighters can fit in a phone booth(except for Stiverne) he may be in a forced retirement.

PS, when Margarito was caught with loaded gloves the whole Panama Lewis incident was brought back to the public's attention.

Pryor had cataracts and a detached retina on top of drug problems. He took a lot of hard hits during his career.
