No problem, sport historian. I appreciate the info about Ferguson. That helps clear that situation up a bit more. I guess it is just difficult for someone like me, who grew up in the caste era, to really comprehend a time when White players were treated fairly. Because of the way things are now, I'm suspicious of how they were in the past. It always helps to have someone with an accurate view of the way things were.

I think the reason why theirs so many busts is purely down to the scouts and scouting media. They relentlessly promote and overhype future busts from high school and their not objective.Alot of time it comes down to whether a player has 'that look of a football player'which means whites no matter how talented need not apply. They also do a good job of eliminating the competition so the Black players have no competition. But its competion that raises standards which makes worldwide sports like Futbol and boxing such compelling sports for the reason thast the best athletes around the world play.

Alot of the busts are good athletes ,have good to fairly productive college careers, their picked to play in the NFL from high school, given 5 star prospect status and coddled on campus, treated like VIPs and guaranteed to start.Their athletiscm enables them to put up good stats againt weaker college opposition. When their drafted thier given big contracts and though their still coddled, thier also expected to produce and the step up in class from more difficult play books and scemes,a more disciplined, regimated proffesional enviroment, competing against players that are more athletic, technically better and tactically more astute leaves many of the busts 'in over thier heads'

The good thing is that White players over the last few years in all positions cope better with that step up in class. It seems the defensive busts are given a shorter string.Epic 58 million bust Tyson Jackson was no longer starting throughout his second season, guys like Maybin and Gholston hardly play.Teams for the most part can cope with sub standard recievers if they have a good QB,running game etc.But if teams have defensive players that cant read a game, make tackles or pick up coverage the teams going to get thumped.

One of the issues I agree with the owners on is instituting a rookie wage scale, as the money showered on early draft choices who haven't proven anything and turn out to be mostly busts these days, is ridiculous. Whereas the successful White players in the league are mostly drafted in the later rounds or signed as free agents and don't get good money, if they ever do, until late in their careers. The proven players are the ones who should make the most money, not unproven rookies.

But looking at how the NFL operates, if there is a mandatory wage scale for rookies cutting way down on huge bonuses and salaries, won't that make NFL teams, cheered on by the "draft gurus" and corporate media, even more likely to take "projects" than they are now, as they won'tthrow awaynearly as much money on busts? White players are better off in the present system, as blatantly unfair as it is.

You may be right about them taking more projects like in the NBA draft. However, if the rookie pay scale were at a much lower and logical level would that not make busts easier to cut? As it currently stands, teams are hesitant to cut a bust like Vernon Golston because of all the guaranteed money already awarded to him. Maybe there would be more projects selected but maybe they will be tossed aside sooner for their more productive White counterparts.

Both good points. Something needs to be done to get rid of the asinine rookie wages. Maybe have the rookie scaled way down for the first 3 years, then if you have done something go for the big contract.<div>
</div><div>I see the Caste system showing stretches at the seams. It's going to take a while, but eventually we might see fairness again where the best players get recruited out of high school, play their natural positions in college and given fair treatment in the NFL.</div><div>
</div><div>Guys like Hillis and Woodhead at running back, Kyle Williams and Kelly Gregg at DT, and Jordy Nelson clowning the back DBs on the NFL's biggest stage help expose the racist and corrupt caste system the NFL has.</div>

Good observation, that would be the other side of the coin.

We need for there to continue to be teams that defy normative Caste System quotas on offense and defense, and for them to continue to be more successful on average than the blacker teams; for the Whites who do get drafted and free agents who get chances to continue to shine, as most are; for lots of highly drafted blacks to keep flopping in droves like they have over the past decade; and for more White athletes and fans to open their eyes to the ways they've been conditioned to think and act accordingly.

This quote from Gil Brandt
smiley8.gif
is comical. What is it,a dozen or so black DTs are drafted early every year, and one actually does well (born in Africa, not a coincidence either when it comes to work ethic and determination), and the stock of all the yearly losersrises. . . ridiculous. Maybe next year 25 morbidly obese slugs will be drafted in the first three rounds as a result of Suh actually panning out. The article is partially about Brandt projecting Jared Crick as a first round draft pick in 2012, but Crick is so blatantly dominant that even Mel Kiper has him projected as number 22 on his "big board." A White defensive tackle going in the first round?? As REM sang, It's the end of the world as we know it.

Brandt says Suh and his 2010 rookie-of-the-year season has "helped every defensive tackle in the country" as far as their draft stock and the contracts involved are concerned.
