400 meter sweetness!

Kevin Borlee of Belarus (44.88) actually ran faster than Finals qualifier David Neville of the USA (44.91), but Neville finished in the top 2 of his heat and automatically made the Final. otherwise, there would be 4 white men in the final!

Neville, though is the slowest finalist.
 
The 400 meter final looks like it will be as good as anything on the Olympic card. It will be this Olympiads version of Ali vs Frazier. Let's hope Wariner wins this as both looked like they had a ton left after they both ran 44.1X's.....

I noticed Belgium had twin brothers in the semis that both ran PBs and are only 20 yrs. old. Plus they had another in the 400 semi and 200 semi. Maybe they can medal in the 4x400.
 
I have a feeling that Wariner is going to finally break the world record in the finals. I know he has been up and down this year but I just have a feeling. I can't really explain why. The world record is going down. I would love to see either Wissman or Rooney grab a medal. Edited by: white lightning
 
Wariner wins in an Olympic record(which would also be a pb too). I can't see him losing unless he screws up. He still has another gear on Merritt. The bronze will be a battle royal between Rooney, Wissman and Brown.
 
white men have a definite shot at taking two of the three medals in the 400, with Wariner being the favorite for the gold. from the semis, i think Rooney has a great chance at hitting a higher gear in the finals than Wissman or the black Brown. he seemed to be coasting down the stretch a bit...

on another note, in the women's 400 a trio of Russian ladies went 4-5-6 in very respectable fashion. all three were within less than half a second of the gold-winning time. they didn't win, but they certainly were impressive and deserve a lot of credit.

I was a bit disappointed with that race, I thought the white women were going to go 2-3-4, but the other two women stormed in the last 80 meters. It was a nice race to watch though.

WTF! JW really blew it.
 
I didn't he ran a 44.1X shutting it down. I think he went for a low 43.X and gassed himself. Really a move that an inexperienced runner would make.
 
I didn't see it, but am disappointed by what happened. Jeremy didn't look that impressive when I saw him run a first round heat a few days ago. Maybe he will get revenge on Merritt soon though and set some records.
 
Man this stinks! I've been building him up and telling people to watch Wariner. Now, I hope they don't. I'm glad I didn't wait until tonight to see Wariner tank. The worse thing is Merrit is from this area so he will be all over the local news.
 
What happened to Rooney and Wissman?
Wissman had had to run pretty hard in qualifying, but I thought Rooney would have had more gas left in the tank.
 
I am also very dissapointed. Wariner ran so slow he was lucky to win any medal, much less a silver. Merritt ran a personal best, but Wariner should have been able to beat him regardless. A lot of things could be the problem, but I am guessing it is coaching.

Nevada, could you please explain your last post. "We knew this was coming." I believed the race would be tight, but I believed JW would nip it at the end. Too bad it didn't happean that way. Good for Merrit. It seems that you hold the belief that blacks are automatically superior in a sprint events. Finally, we all did not see this coming!
 
I think that he meant that Merritt has beaten Wariner already this year and that Wariner has been slowing down since changing coaches.

Nevada it comes from your last post regarding JW's defeat as if you knew it was going to happean or never expected him to defend his title from the 2004. Quite elementry. KG2422 gave an intelligent response to my post.

On another subject, what's with your shortness phobia? Your past explanations on the demeaning short athletes and boxers is just infantile/dumb.
