Fast, faster, Jakob Kemminer. By setting the German U20 record from 1988 (!) by Berliner Sven Matthes, the LAC Quelle Fürth athlete literally set off fireworks on the blue synthetic track in the Lohrheide Stadium and confidently sprinted to victory over 100 meters. The U18 European champion clocked 10.14 seconds at the finish - this means he has also broken the standard for the European Championships in Birmingham (Great Britain; August 10th to 16th), catapulted himself to third place on the German annual best list for men and, last but not least, is likely to be one of the favorites at the U20 World Championships in Eugene.
The athletes in second to fourth place were also extremely fast, all of whom recorded a “PB”. The promising impression from the relay race on Friday was confirmed by Lennox Schmidt (SCC Berlin), who secured silver in 10.25 seconds ahead of Alvin Mawumba (TV Wattenscheid 01; 10.36 sec) and was also able to fly to the USA for the international highlight.
"Running the European Championship standard for men is unbelievable. I would never have thought that. Especially because I didn't feel well this morning and was very nervous. But in the stadium everything went well and everything went well in the runs. After I held back a bit in the semi-final, I wanted to give it my all in the final and give it my all. Now the worst thing I could have dreamed of has happened. I will definitely start at the U20 World Cup, the European Championship is in Birmingham “It’s rather unlikely. I’ll still be there at the youth championships in two weeks,” said Jakob Kemminer, still a little disbelieving about what he had achieved on Saturday.
