The second event of the 2026 PGA Tour season, The American Express-La Quinta, CA., has World Number 1 Scottie Scheffler with a 2 stroke lead with 10 holes to go.
1. Scheffler -25 thru 8
2. Putnam -23
T4 Day -21
Without many of the top players in the world playing, Scheffler should finish this one off with another win! As stated, he should further pad his World Number 1 ranking and it's not even really close as number 2 Rory McIIroy. A distant second.

World Golf Rankings
1. Scheffler 16.01
2. McIIroy 8.88
3. Fleetwood 5.41
4. Schauffele 4.70
5. Henley 4.70

Should Scheffler go on to win today, it would be his 20th career PGA Tour win. He has held the World Number 1 position for over 150 weeks total and 100+ consecutively. He has won four Major Championships and only needs to win the US Open to win the career slam.

Scheffler will win The American Express and get his 20th career win.. He will further cement his place as World number 1. He should be there for a long time as there is no one really close. Hoping he'll somehow approach Tiger Woods record of 281 consecutive weeks and 683 total weeks. I believe Scheffler has been number 1 for 100+ weeks consecutively and 150 total.

If Scheffler can keep averaging one major (or more) for another decade he just might challenge Tiger's mark of 15 of them, which is second best all time. He has the talent, the main factor is if he has the drive as he already has all the money he'll ever need and he's also devoted to his wife and child and likely more children to come.

Would love to see him challenge Woods for second all time, and yes he's already working on child number two as his wife was visibly pregnant just off the green after he won today.
Right about the money too. He went $100 million in career earnings with this win! $20 million more which is very possible this year and he passes Woods for that record. Not to mention his endorsement money!
