I'm really looking forward to this one. It's taking place on a great course, Quail Hollow, host of three U.S. Opens. The weather forecast is mostly good after lots of rain fell in recent days.

Coming off his epic Masters win, Rory McIlroy has won four different PGA events at Quail Hollow so this may be his best course and he's the slight favorite over Scottie Scheffler. Will be interesting to see how Rory follows up his Masters performance. Scheffler is coming off an epic performance of his own, winning with a record low score of -31 and an eight stroke runaway title at the Houston Open. Justin Thomas has been red hot and has won two previous PGA championships. Jordan Spieth though not among the favorites will be going for the career grand slam. Bryson DeChambeau has been right in the hunt in all the majors of late, including winning the '24 U.S. Open. It's shaping up to be a memorable event.

Yessir! I'm looking forward to this one as well Don. I was hoping to get there one day this weekend, but circumstances won't allow it. McIIroy is a beast at Quail Hollow as you mentioned he's won four times here. He's won four tournaments this year including The Players and The Masters as mentioned. It would be special for him to win The PGA and continue the chance of winning the season slam and the Players, a feat never accomplished! I don't believe Scheffler has ever played Quail Hollow, choosing to play in his home state of Texas and play those events every season and generally skipping the Charlotte NC course, so this could be a severe disadvantage for him.
I'll be pulling for Jordan Spieth as usual, but he's never finished particularly well at Quail Hollow. Probably not going to happen this year. I'll also be watching our local pro, JT Poston. Poston a three-time Tour winner has yet to really be competitive in The Majors, although he's made the cut often, he's never been in contention. Hoping he can get up among the leaders and win a major!

Wow! Kind of a crappy first round of The PGA. I didn't expect a whole lot from Spieth, but McIIroy whose won four times at Quail Hollow shot an opening round 74. +3.
Jordan Spieth shot 76
T-98 McIIroy +3
T 125 Spieth +5

Scottie Scheffler managed a 69.
T-20 Scheffler -2
T-20 Scott -2

Local player JT Poston had a nice opening round 68.
T-9 JT Poston -3
I guess I'll be pulling Poston to somehow hang in there and stay in contention into the weekend as well as Scheffler. McIIroy and Spieth will have to do some serious work to make the cut!

Yes, disappointing with so few big names among the leaders early, but there's still three rounds to go, plenty of time for them to climb up the leaderboard.

Johnny Vegas dropped a shot on his second hole and is now at -6. Morikowa is now at -4 after 3 birdies in his first 7 holes. Spieth is at + 4. It is early in the second round.

Scottie Scheffler shoots a 69 and moves into a T-5. JT Poston T-7. McIIroy shoots a 70 and makes the cut on the number +1. Spieth misses the cut by 1 stroke.

1. Vegas -8
T-5 Scheffler -5
T-7 Poston -4
T-17 DeChambeau -3
T-62 McIIroy +1

Looking forward the final round today. Here's the top contenders:

1. Scheffler -11
2. Noren -8
T-3 Riley -7
T-3 Poston -7
T-5 Rahm -6

I'm pretty sure the winner will come from one of these five players. I'm pulling for JT Poston, the local player to win. Then I'll look for Scheffler to claim his third Major if Poston can't make a run. It'd be ok if American Davis Riley from Hattiesburg MS. won as well.
Although I believe the winner will come from the top five players mentioned, you never know what can happen at a tough course like Quail Hollow!

Scheffler's lead was up to five strokes but he's been stumbling and now playing the tenth hole he's -9, tied with Jon Rahm, who's playing twelve. Several other players are just two strokes behind. Now looking like it'll be a drama filled back nine.

We finallly have a proper leaderboard. This will be good. Looks like the Thunder are running away from the Nuggets, so I’ll watch the golf.

Scottie about to go up by five strokes again, it's all but over now, major number three for the world's best golfer!

Yes. It's over. Scheffler with his third Major at 28 years old. Not too many players have ever done that. Hopefully JT Poston can get into second place.

And Scottie is also just the third golfer with 15 PGA titles before the age of 29 in the modern era, Nicklaus and Woods being the others.

Wow! That's a great accomplishment! I hope he can continue to play well. I've been wanting to see someone challenge Woods for a long time. No hatred for Woods. He's all the media talks about being great. Forgetting Nicklaus, Hogan, Player, Palmer and others. I thought Rory or Spieth would've been the one's early on, but it doesn't look like they'll be in Wood's realm. Scheffler may not either, but he's certainly on his way!

I don't hate Tiger either, but what I do hate is the media's unending, unrelenting Tiger mania. I made the mistake of turning on Live from the PGA Championship right after Scottie hoisted the Wanamaker Trophy and guess what? It began with both Rich Lerner and Brandel Chamblee comparing Scottie's turnaround on the back nine to the 1997 Masters, when Woods shot a 40 on the front nine of the first round, not the final round and then went on to a runaway win. It was literally all a hyper-excited Chamblee could talk about for five minutes, replete with pictures of the young Woods at Augusta nearly 30 years ago. Lerner and Chamblee always find a way to make Woods the central topic, even after a great major win like this for Scottie Scheffler. It's beyond buffoonery and beyond disgusting.

I also noticed that Rolex was running a "Reach for the Crown" ad during the tournament that featured various contenders who were playing in the tournament except one. Tiger Woods wasn't even playing yet the nearly 50 year old with the ruined body was shown in the ad as one of the contenders "reaching for the crown"!

Will we ever reach peak Tiger worship, nearly 20 years after he stopped winning majors? It reflects a real sickness in this society, part kneejerk anti-Whiteness, part idolizing Blacks (even when they're actually only one-quarter Black) and putting them on a pedestal. I hope Scheffler continues to dominate to the point that he'll have to start receiving his due.

100% Agree! Couldn't have said it better my friend!

The media has some weird fetish with Black American athletes. I didn't hear much coming out of the media when the Afro-Venezuelan was leading for the first two days of this tournament.

As for Scheffler he was cool under pressure as when I took a power nap at 5pm he was about dead even with Rahm and looked like was possibly fading. He righted the ship and all of the other contenders imploded.

Simply outstanding grace under pressure.

This is how all sports would be if we weren’t Die-verse. Congrats to Scottie!

You would think Scheffler's victory would be the lead story on ESPN, but no, the most important story was the Thunder's win over the Nuggets. What a bunch of racist commentators.

I was watching the re-run of Live from The PGA as I can't sit long enough to watch the entire review of the tournament. Somehow, they tied Scheffler's PGA win to Woods' 1997 Masters win. I caught the tail end of it, but why? You are correct white is right. It's some weird fetish!

I love golf, but something is missing about it. Fans don't want to attend the events like they used to. I've noticed on the local sports news that the Myrtle Beach Classic, a vendor, said she had two customers all day on Sunday, and the whole event was a loss for her.
The PGA Championship claimed 40,000 people a day for the tournament. I know they go by ticket sales, but there just weren't that many attending that event. I know attendance has been declining over the last few years. I don't know the answer, but the PGA needs to figure it out soon or go the way Nascar has gone, downhill.

I can't pinpoint the reason Booth, but I can give a couple possibilities. I think first there may be a lack of interest because the lack of how should I say," flamboyancy" of modern players. In years gone by we had Lee Trevino, Chi Chi Rodriquez, the common man Arnold Palmer. Jack "The Golden Bear" Nickalus brought out a new and amazing game of both power off the tee and finesse around and on the greens. Then the "Shark" Greg Norman, the great Phil Mickelson with his game, and of course John Daly.....and like it not Tiger Woods brought new interest to the game as well. Then Rory McIIroy came on strong in the beginning, but fizzled just a bit taking 11 years to win his 5th Major and complete the career grand slam. Jordan Spieth could've kept it interesting, but he also has fizzled after almost winning the grand slam in one season. Then there's the LIV Tour that has taken the likes of DeChambeau, Koepka, Johnson and Rahm. Now The PGA is a bit boring to many. I find myself not watching as much as I used to and I'm an empty nester. I do follow hometown player JT Poston, but he has about as much personality as a blank page. Nice guy, good player, but not exactly emotional or outgoing. I personally don't care if a player is animated or not, but many fans do. JMO.
Also, with The PGA being held in "The Furniture Capital of the World" North Carolina. The furniture business, where I would say hundreds of thousands if not a million people make their living in this state, is stagnant and downright awful right now. Many folks are not making as much money here. It's recession like in the industry right now. The economy could have something to do with it.
Again, JMO. I could be wrong.

The LIV tour has sucked the life out of the PGA tour. I never watch LIV. I rarely watch PGA anymore because the average leaderboard is random unknown players. The Majors are the only thing worth watching, and they would be better if I was following the weekly events more closely.

The crowds were small Thursday and Friday but were quite large over the weekend. The crowd at 18 on Sunday to greet Scheffler was British Open sized.

Most fans work on weekdays, and unlike The Masters not many people are going to take off work and travel great distances to Quail Hollow. Also, it's become easier and more convenient to watch at home on the boob tube. You get a comprehensive view of who the competitors are along with countless replays of meaningful shots, while at a tournament you're part of a mob and usually just staying at a single hole or following just one player. There's also more layers of security to pass through and other headaches involved in attending in person. I attended the third round of the U.S. Open at Oakmont in 2007 and have no interest in attending when it's held there next month.

I also agree with icsept about the effect of LIV, way too many PGA leaderboards with unknowns that no one cares about. But LIV tournaments are a joke too with their team format and other gimmicks.
