Freethinker
Hall of Famer
Let's start with the potential good news for the 2025 Jaguars. Caste flunkies Trent Baalke and Doug Peterson were fired after the 2024 team failed again miserably. The bad news is the Jags are still owned by Paki billionaire Shad Khan. That means that likely autistic and roundly incompetent nepo-baby Tony lurks as "Chief Football Strategy Officer". As I've said before, these squads for the last decade have not been "White friendly" nor ultra black. The Jaguars just represent mediocrity or worse. Can new young GM James Gladstone from the Rams front office and new HC Liam Coen, from the McVey / Rams coaching tree, turn around this sorry franchise? One hopes, as Coen did wonders for Baker Mayfield last season as OC for the Bucs. This roster (and team) could be one on the rise demographically and in the wins category.

The Jags make a huge jump in overall roster and starters under the new regime. Possible the best jump from season to season.
This team will thrive or fail behind QB Trevor Lawrence. The man once seen as a can't miss star, has struggled in recent years. I'm hoping "quarterback whisperer" Liam Coen can unlock his talents this season. Week 1 was an unspectacular start but I'm hoping they are still getting on the same page and we see a more explosive passing attack in the weeks to come. A poor Bengals defense in week 2 could be just what the doctor ordered. While there is much to like about this years Jags, Lawrence still has nothing but blacks to throw to. 3rd string TE Hunter Long was the only White man catching a ball in the opener. Backup tight end Johnny Mundt has shown some talent for the Vikings, so hopefully he becomes more involved in coming weeks. Nick Mullens comes in as one of the better backup QBs in the league and a guy who can win games if Lawrence were to be unfortunately hurt.
RB Cody Schrader was a surprise and shrewd signing earlier this week. At the moment, the former Missouri star and SEC leading rusher sits at 4th string. In front of him for backup duties stands a pair of hilariously named rookies. A 'Bhayshul' and a 'LeQuint'. Perhaps, if Schrader was named L'Kodi-shaw he would have been drafted, instead of having to go the undrafted route. And for any lurkers, let's check the stats for the final season of college and see if the math checks out. Bhayshul Tuten 1,159 yards & 15 TDs for Virginia Tech = 4th round pick. LeQuint Allen Jr 1,021 yards & 16 TDs for Syracuse = 7th round pick. Cody Schrader 1,627 yards & 14 TDs (8th in Heisman voting) = NOT DRAFTED. Let's hope that the Jags coaches are fair and that the cream is allowed to rise to the top.
The offensive line in recent years has been poor. 5 time Pro-Bowler Brandon Scherff, the only White pick in the infamously bad 2015 draft, has retired. So there is some new blood on the line. Center Robert Hainsey follows HC Coen over from the Bucs. Patrick Mekari, who you may or may not root for, comes over from the Ravens. LT Walker Little elevates from a backup role and Ezra Cleveland returns as the starting left guard. 3/5ths or 4/5ths White offensive lines usually perform well so I'm expecting this unit to outperform the low ranking ratings sites have given them to start the season. In week 1, TLaw was sacked zero times and the team rusher to 200 total yards. Stock up!
On defense, veteran strong safety Andrew Wingard returns for year 7 with the team and starts! Andrew was slated to start in 2024 before injuries derailed that. Overall he's actually started more games than I thought. 29 of 87 in his career. However, he hasn't started a full season since 2021 when he tallied 88 total tackles. At 29 years young, let's hope for good health, a resurgent 'breakout' season and an anchor for the defense. He also represents only 1 of 4 starting White safeties in 2025. The other White starter is Cardinals refugee Dennis Gardeck. Gardeck has a similar career to Windgard. Undrafted, underrated part-time starter. He's started 18 of 97 career games and give the Jags a veteran pass rusher on the strong side. I'd expect less sacks moving from a 3-4 to a 4-3 but more tackles. Rookie lineback Jack Kiser basically replaces Chad Muma on the 2nd string. DE Danny Striggow was a pleasant surprise who excelled all summer and in preseason out of the University of Minnesota.
Austin Trammell is a WR on the practice squad who survived the initial cutdown to 53 before being let go when Tim Patrick was acquired by trade from the Lions. So the Patrick trade, benefited TeSlaa but hurt Trammell. The Caste System ying and yang. TE Patrick Herbert is the less famous brother of the Chargers star QB. Branson Combs is a linebacker who finished his college career at Wake Forest. I rarely mention kickers but Cam Little is an exciting one. He kicked what would have been a record long field goal in the preseason of 70 yards. In a close game, he's a weapon that shortens the scoring range immensely.
All in all, the Jags are a team that should command our attention. Can't believe I'm about to type this but "Go Jags!"......I guess
