From 2005-2012 Houston started 9, 9, 9, 8, 6, 4, 5 and 4 Whites. No 2013 write-up, From 2014-2018 Houston started 3, 4, 2, 2, 1 and 3 whites. 4 white starters in 2020 and 2021, 3 last year. 4 in 2023. The Cougars start 2 in 2024. 7 this year.

Some interesting players including Rice transfer Dean Connors who is using his extra year and looks to at least see a share of the main carries. On defense, we see freshman Chance Bryant securing one of the LB spots with DB Wrook Brown coming over from Wyoming. Although not a very white friendly roster, this is definitely a team to check the box scores for.

Overall this is an extemely dark roster with just a TE and one OL on the two deep back up.

Offense -
QB - Connor Weigman
RB - Dean Connors *in a battle for position
TE - Tanner Koziol
RG - Matthew Wykoff
RT - Dalton Merryman

Defense -
LB - Chance Bryant
DB - Wrook Brown

I'll be rooting for them this year. Weigman, Koziol and Connors on offense should keep it interesting.

Side note. I was in Houston last weekend. Drove through the UH campus. Their campus is hideous and dated. Their athletic facilities, including their football stadium, are dated and ugly. I was surprised, because they have fairly high level football and basketball programs.

this is an overwhelmingly dark team, yet …

- the best passer is a White man (Connor Weigman).
- the best runner is a White man (Dean Connors).
- the best receiver is a White man (Tanner Koziol).

you would think that the coaching staff would target more athletes similar to these in the recruiting process and transfer portal, yet “for some reason” they don’t.

“weird,” huh?

Connors has nearly 3 times as many rushing yards as the next best running back while averaging a stellar 6.5 yards-per-carry, the best average on the team. he also has the longest run from scrimmage to date:: 54 yards (touchdown). it would seem that he has all the tools to succeed, so surely the coaching staff would want more running backs like him, right?

Koziol has nearly as many catches by himself as the rest of the team combined (13 for him and 18 for everyone else), so surely the coaching staff is looking for more athletes that are similar to him, right?

on defense, arguably their best player (and defensive back) is Wrook Brown. he’s strong in coverage, physical against the run, and can rush the passer. surely the coaching staff would target more players like him moving forward, right?

if the best players play, then it would follow that a team would want more players that share the attributes of their best players. so, moving forward, it’s safe to assume that Houston will be targeting many, many White athletes in the recruiting process, right?

right?

Great post! Would love to see Connors top a thousand yards and make it impossible for NFL teams to ignore him.
