Since 2006, Illinois has started 11, 8, 5, 4, 4, 6, 8, 10, 8, 10, 10, 6, 5, 6, 8, 5, and 4 white athletes. They project to start six in 2024.

Head coach Bret Bielema has yet to channel his 3-time Big Ten-winning Wisconsin rosters. His OL is dark, his defense is dark, and his depth isn’t great. On the plus side, he keeps traditional caste rooms for quarterbacks and tight ends. Local running back prospect Aidan Laughery has been given early chances and should earn more. A couple of white wide receivers could grow into prominence. Overall though, this is a very "meh" team that ought to be whiter.

Starting QB Luke Altmyer began his college career at Ole Miss as a four star recruit before transferring prior to 2023 for playing time. He has this season and next to parlay a middling Big Ten career into an NFL backup job.

Sophomore running back Aidan Laughery played in nine games as a true freshman, burning his redshirt, and has a solid high school pedigree. He was a three star recruit who ranked between 37 and 73 to the four recruiting services. He’s listed third on the depth chart primarily due to age but could potentially move up in a weak group.

Starting center Josh Kreutz is the son of six-time Pro Bowler Olin Kreutz. His younger brother James is a scholarship linebacker, apparently already on the 2-deep.

Tight end Cole Rusk missed all of last year injured and still transferred from Eastern Michigan with an apparent promise of playing time.

Backup tackle Magnus Moller is a 6’9 315 lbs project from Denmark.

Freshman defensive tackle Eddie Tuerk checked into college at 6’4 325 lbs and may force his way onto the field.

Backup safety Mac Resetich played in 11 games (one pick) as a true freshman and should see even more time on the field this year. Fellow backup Sage Luther is an up-transfer from Colgate looking to either make his mark against tougher competition or get a free graduate degree.

Disappointed that Bielema isn't hitting Wisconsin to recruit all those outstanding White OL that Fickell is ignoring.
