Since 2007, the Miners have started 10, 9, 5, 5, 4, 2, 3, 8, 5, 5, 3, 1, 0, 5, 4, and 4 whites. They are starting 4 again in 2023.

No big shakeups here for the Miners, who promote one tight end and return their other three white starters. Their entire defensive two-deep could be entirely black.

Marcus Bellon is the full-time return man and had a nifty highlight early last season. The team did not find a way to get him the ball in space, however. The Miners are a run-heavy team that uses a (Mexican) fullback and blocking tight ends.

Starters:
QB: Gavin Hardison
OL: Andrew Meyer, Elijah Klein
TE: Zach Fryar

KR/PR: Marcus Bellon

Backups:
QB: Jake McNamara (3rd string)
WR: Marcus Bellon, Kyle McNamara

DL: Chase Bibler, Matt Wann
LB: Nate Dyman, Jake Hall

Looking at UTEP, they clearly are mining for something. Coal. The city of El Paso is over 80% Hispanic and the rest White. Blacks are 3% but on the football team they must makeup the 80%. More radical affirmative action to ship in these blacks to a middling program. If the school recruited Whites from the surrounding West Texas area and the large Mexican community that occasionally produces a big athlete or 2, could anyone actually argue that the team would do worse? They’ve had 4 winning seasons in the last 20 years….
