Since 2005, the Huskies have started 8, 6, 6 ,8 ,8 ,7, 8, 7, 8, 8, 8, 6, 6, 5, and 6 white athletes (the 2020 season was cancelled due to a “pandemic”). In 2023, they will start just 4 5.
(+ QB Fagnano and WR Brett Buckman, - WR Flynn)
Running back Victor Rosa came from nowhere last season to lead the Huskies with 140 carries, 636 yards, and 11 touchdowns in 2022 after injuries thrust him into the starting lineup. Despite these perfectly respectable numbers, he is currently listed as third on the running back depth chart. He should at the least factor into every game plan and apparently will return punts.
Jacob Flynn ascends to starting slot receiver. Louis Hansen is a Michigan transfer who left for playing time and will get it here. Last year’s backup quarterback, Cale Millen, has been moved to free safety and might realistically play a bit. In 2022, he went 6-15 throwing for 31 yds (not good) and ran 17 times for 100 yds, including a 49-yd touchdown (very nice).
This team has a few interesting players and I simply wish there was more to like about them. Many of the backups will get snaps, but Jim Mora Jr. is following the NFL roster model with a college team from smack in the middle of New England.
