2022 World Indoor Season

I to this day cannot figure out why the 800m(and longer races) take the top 2 in each heat to advance and not the 8 fastest times, Wilson of the USA runs a pedestrian 2.03:45, Lorena Martin of Spain runs 2.03:85 and they advance because they are the top 2 in their heat, yet there are 5 competitors with faster times than theirs's that do not advance....this system needs to change.. It should be the 8 fastest times.....

Alot of our mens sprinters either did not show up today and another was disqualified. We did get some guys through to the finals but not as many as I had hoped for!

Karl Erik Nazarov ran a 6.55 for a new National Record. Adam Thomas ran a very fast 6.57 but teammate Andrew Robertson came up short.

Trevor Bassitt takes the silver medal in the 400m at the World Indoor Championships. Time, 45.05.
Not bad for a Division 2 college athlete!

Bassitt of the US takes silver in the mens 400 meters. It was a photo finish. Bengtstrom of Sweden takes the bronze medal. What a race!

In a photo finish it wasn't mysterious , Jacobs out leans Coleman. Thomas finished 5th in the final but the top 3 were a full tenth faster than the rest of the field. The real challenge could be the drug test...

Lamont Marcel Jacobs won the title beating Coleman and Bracy. A new european all time 60 meters record of 6.41 and it makes you wonder how good those yams taste. I
give credit where credit is due but Coleman has already been busted for peds and just returned from a 1 year suspension. Jacobs looks even more suspicious. I 'm glad
he beat Dwain Chambers record though as I never really liked that guy and the rumors with Chambers were also rampant. Who knows but congrats to Jacobs.

Karl Erik Nazorov took 4th and Adam Thomas took 5th. Not a bad showing for them to be 2 of the 5 fastest sprinters in the world indoors! I want add that Adam Thomas
is built very powerfully similar to how Craig Pickering was. He has really leveled up this year. See how he does outdoors.

It's Nazorov though that really impresses me the most. Why do you ask? Because he is built like a distance runner. So long, lean and skinny. Not much muscle on him yet
he runs these times with ease. I wonder if he would improve alot to bulk up a little. Not too much but he can add some strength. He has the fast twitch fibers needed to be
a sprinter but always looks so skinny next to other sprinters. That's amazing how fast he is. He does have good height and that helps with the longer strides. Hope to see both
of these young sprinters break some personal bests outdoors this summer!

He's an ethnic Russian at least through his paternal ancestry. You know I forgot about him and his surprise finish. I don't know how old he is but if he is fairly young he has some real upside with his room for muscle growth. From looking at the first photo it looks like he has been running at meets for a good decade.

It seems he participated in a number of events in the past, including the 400m hurdles and hepthatlon.

Marek Niit was a pretty good sprinter for Estonia and the Univ. of Arkansas.
He had bests of 10.19 and 20.49 and 45.74.
Good targets for Erik Nazarov.

Even though Femke Bol finished in 2nd place and took the silver we should be nothing but proud of her. At such a young age to be the silver medal winner
at the World Championships shows she is on a level above most female sprinters on earth. I'm so proud of her. A polish girl took 4th and looked good too.

I was looking up Nazarov earlier today. His PB 10.42 should be an easy beat this coming season based on that 60m. Year of birth 1999

And yes, Bol is a wonderful athlete. Will get stronger and I hope she does it without bulking up. Miller-Uibo will be 28 next month so is at her prime while Bol is a full 6 years younger and less experienced (not to mention she's a hurdles specialist)

Bol is using this as an off season training base, this is quite common for decathletes or hurdlers. Back in the day short sprinters used this to work on their start I recall reading an SI article about the annual MSG meet and seeing Borzov running against various American sprinters in a 60 meter dash(this was post 72').

What is more mind boggling to me, is that Germany, Europe's largest (population) and strongest (economically) country, failed to win a single medal!
Slovenia did. New Zealand had 2 medals. Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Portugal, Serbia, Greece - very small countries in comparison - all won medals.
Not to mention all the bigger European countries - France, Spain, Britain, Italy, Netherlands, Poland.
In fact Germany barely had any participants at the Championships.
On a relative basis, Germany is the worst country in Europe for track and field.
And this is nothing new. Germany has been swinging WAY below their weight, for years...almost decades now. A very sad showing and state of affairs for Germany.

Duplantis is from Sweden. He looks White to me. This is an amazing vault.

You can't count Russia since they are not allowed to compete as a nation. Just a few athletes here and there.
But Sergey Shubenkov comes to mind as a medal winning Russian track athlete.

Exactly WL. I have watched that vault several times now and it's sheer perfection. In slow motion you can see each maneuver and all synced to the end. Speaking of "perfection", nobody else but me commented about his girlfriend, in the second video I posted above... There's no such thing as a true 10 but she is a cutie. May they marry and have beautiful Christian children!!
EDIT: BTW, 16.2M IS....20' 3" !!! AMAZING!

And staying on this you can see the crossbar wobble ever so slightly as clears it! He brushed it just barely with the inside of his right bicep. Stayed on though. What a vault. As I said above that's 20 feet 3 inches! What a new world indoor record!

Ok my brother and good friend. I just went and saw his girlfriend. Yes she is so beautiful and an economics major. They look good together. I'm happy for the kid and he is one of the two greatest pole vaulters in the history of the world. When all is said and done he will be the best without a doubt. I'm older but I would love to have a girlfriend that looks like her but maybe around a decade older. Hahaha. I can dream right? Hope he sets many more world records. It would great to see Mondo set one at the world champs in Eugene, Oregon.
