Patrick Reed leads by one shot at -4 after two rounds at Wingfoot, one of the very toughest golf courses in the world. The tournament was last played there in 2006. Bryson DeChambeau is one shot behind while Justin Thomas, Harris English and Spaniard Rafa Cabrera-Bello are at 2 under.

Thankfully Tiger Woods missed the cut by four shots. As always, Golf Channel's coverage was 95% centered around Woods, 5% "others." It will always be this way no matter how old and non-competitive Woods is as long as Rich Lerner is Golf Channel's propaganda minister. I watched the pre-tournament coverage a lot less than I would have if this level of insanity didn't still exist even as Tiger is now almost 45 years old and well over a decade past his peak. At least when he misses the cut, Lerner is forced to shift the focus to the actual contenders and tournament story lines.

Very hard Golf course. I like to watch Rory the most. They only show snippets of him. It is a lot of fun to watch pros have to figure out how to make a par.

Rich Lerner makes my skin crawl. It kills me how the "propaganda minister" leads the experts commenting with phrases like "we all know that," we don't all know that, he never strays from the agenda. Woods is on most every time after commercials. I try to keep the sound off.

21 year old Matthew Wolff of the U.S. has a three shot lead going into the final round. He's -5. Wolff's yet another very young hotshot, they just keep coming and coming on the PGA Tour. That's why there'll never be another "big three" or whatever, the talent pool now is way too deep for just a few players to dominate, as Spieth, Day, McIlroy and other young guns from just a few years ago have found out. Collin Morakawa, who won the PGA several weeks ago, is all of 23.

Bryson "The Incredible Hulk" DeChambeau is second, two shots behind. Patrick Reed faded on the back nine today after leading for a good portion of the round. A number of other players are still within a half dozen or so shots.

This is Bryson's coming of age tournament. He's been dominant since the PGA Tour resumed, building himself up to scary physical proportions to go along with his first-rate golf mind. He's pounding drives into the stratosphere yet also has an excellent short game.

Maybe this will launch him into a period of dominance, but the same was said of Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and others. He has the mind and brawn to do it, time will tell, but at any rate he's won his first major in grand style.

I wouldn't right off German-American Koepka yet, Bryson, Koepka, McIlroy, Woods and other golfers just took golf into the modern era with physical fitness helping you with power and conditioning late in a tournament.

I just think guys have to constantly consult sports trainers to avoid injuries because of the extra stress on their bodies. I think this is one of the reasons why Woods is a physical wreck now.

Congratulations to Bryson DeChambeau! He joins Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only players to win The NCAA Championship, The US Amateur, and The US Open.

I was hoping that one of the players that have been mentioned; McIlroy, Spieth, Koepka, or Thomas etc., would have continued their brief dominance for years to come and win more Majors. McIlroy won four quickly and Spieth won three in two years and almost won the Grand Slam.
However, as Don stated, this hasn't happened. I have no idea what happened to McIlroy and Spieth. They had a really good shot at approaching Woods' Major victories and Spieth with three Majors is only 27 years old. I don't think Mickelson won his first Major until he was 30. Although DeChambeau is powerful and intelligent, I don't think he's going to win 10, 11 or more Majors. Of course I hope I'm wrong. But, most don't ever win one.
Looking ahead to the Masters in November, I'm predicting Spieth will come out of his funk and win or get close.

McIlroy is still very competitive. Justin Thomas even more so. Spieth is the one who has fallen back, sadly. But the depth of talent is to me a great positive; I don't expect another Jack or Tiger to emerge simply because so many young White men have the mindset and talent to make their mark. Matthew Wolff didn't prevail at the U.S. Open but at 21 he's yet another great talent who isn't going away. Golf has never been in a better place, except for the plandemic and no crowds at events. Hopefully there will be galleries when The Masters is played in November.
