Hannah Cunliffe ran a 11.14 0.5 wind today for her fastest legal race in three years. Hope she can get back to elite form and make the olympics for the U.S. at the end of the summer.

A story that interested me: no, he's not a white athlete but it still shows how athletes are tied into various events/distances etc because there is a predisposition to judge an athlete's ability simply because of his/her colour, body shape or cultural ties to specific sports/events.

“I'm always been told my choice of distance as a Kenyan won't attract sponsors or shoe contracts. So far they've been right, but I’m not willing to sacrifice the satisfaction and joy that comes with doing the 100m and 200m. If I finish my career with no sponsors, nor shoe deals, I'll still be extremely grateful to God for the opportunity I had to pursue my dreams.”
(READ AS: Kenyans are only perceived as distance runners and unable to excel in other events )

27 year old Mark Okhiambo is Kenya's top male sprinter and record holder at 10.14. He may never get any faster but he's given his all at what he wanted to do. That earns respect.

Everything was screwed up with this race and Lemaitre "won" the race after Noah Lyles raced 185 meters and Lemaitre and Martina ran 200M at 3 different locations. Picture something akin to a PPV simulcast broadcast that boxing and rock events have done over the years......

This question is for mastermulti. Do you expect to see Jack Hale or Rohan Browning race in Europe at all this summer? It's already mid July and no signs of either of them. Would be good for them to get more experience internationally. That is the biggest
problems with Australian Sprinters because the seasons are different. South Africa seems to be doing a better job with this. We need Aussie Athletes competing around the world.

not a snowball's chance in hell will Australian athletes travel to anywhere this year.
So far we've had just over the 100 deaths by managing CoVid well. Other countries have proved to be basket cases and unable to do so.
In fact anyone returning to Australia now from anywhere in the world has to pay $3,000 to be in isolation in city hotels for 14 days for the foreseeable future.
And these restrictions are totally enforced. Even crossing closed state borders is potentially an $11,000 fine and 6 months gaol time.

So no, our athletes will be training here with Tokyo in mind for next July

That is smart but those rules/laws are very draconian. The whole world is getting to that point. It's all about Big Government and taking away our freedoms. So sad in my opinion on top of all of the
people suffering from Covid and the economic impact of this whole situation.

as a non-American I see things differently - we don't view guns, rights and freedoms the way you do since our culture is quite different.
For instance in Australia we HAVE to vote - yet I view it as an honour and privilege rather than an imposed burden.
I'm quite happy for these Draconian measures for those who value their personal freedoms above the dangers to those around them.
But yes, we have to negotiate around things as far as the economy goes . It's a whole new situation facing everyone on our globe really - strange days indeed!

We just cancelled a holiday interstate due to border restrictions. I guess we'll just re-route our trip away

As far as the women go, Ajla Del Pontev of Switzerland ran a wind legal 11.08 a few days ago. Also remember that many of these sprinters and track atheletes lacked the proper training
facilities to work out properly during these covid lockdowns.I think we will see some faster times over the last 6 weeks of summer. At least I'm hopeful for that.

On the mens side Filippo Tortu races for the 2nd time tommorow. Anxious to see if he can throw down a really fast time if the conditions are good.

At the mid summer point we have 9 or the 10 fastest times in Europe by our athletes. Yes the times could be faster but lack of training due to the virus and all of the major champs being cancelled. I'm very happy to see this list and
I hope we will see alot of sub 10.10's and maybe a few sub 10's by the end of the summer. It's always good to see new sprinters break this magical mark which is needed to win medals at the olympics and world championships.
