This bumbling American who admits he doesn't understand the nuances of soccer as much as Europeans and Brits is still a big fan. I miss the thrill of sitting in spirited packed bars watching soccer but what can you do? I imagine all CF soccer fans will be rooting most for Chelsea which has some of the best white studs in soccer on their roster this season. They are a wow team if ever there was one. They open their season Monday on NBCSN.

On the eve of the season kicking off and my genuine love of England and their rich historical culture I think it is prudent to give this famous soccer league a thread of their own. I don't have an ounce of English blood but I think they are the greatest people on earth. And probably the whitest in the strictest terms. Ha.

Keep in mind Fox sports won't be telecasting the Bundesliga League now that ESPN has bought the rights. Fox would routinely telecast games so one could keep up a bit. ESPN will only telecast 4-8 games this season preferring to shove the rest of the games on their streaming platforms which I wouldn't pay a penny for. Besides I suspect many think The Premier League is the crème de la crème of soccer leagues which is another reason I feel they deserve their own thread.

So lets hope Liverpool gets overtaken this year and I look forward to some of our soccer experts chiming in with their words of wisdom.

Late edit. The Chelsea game won't be on TV Monday. They changed it. Instead it will be on that streaming service Peacock. Poppycock.

Well, Shadowlight, I am with you about respecting the English, who've long been (or perhaps once were) the most civilized folks on Earth (along with pre-1960s Americans). I have a significant amount of English blood from both sides, so I come by my admiration naturally. But I am wondering what noble blood courses through your veins, because you have good taste and I like your reference to "the thrill of sitting in spirited packed bars watching soccer". Perhaps you are a poetic Irishman ("Shamrock") or a bit of the old German philosophers, or perhaps your ancestors hail from the Mediterranean. Come now, Shadowlight, and enlighten us with your ancient heritage. (As for soccer, I don't often watch, but I have played Subbuteo, if that counts.)

Another flat start to an English Premier league game as Jamie Vardy has barely seen the ball for Leicester City.

As for my heritage I am thouroughly American but strange that you mention it my blood is ancient.

I don't have any Celtic blood whatsoever and I am certainly not German.

But this might help you. I was eating spaghetti shortly after I was born.

Better. Jamie Vardy nails a penalty kick. I thought for a minute he would have to leave after the goalie squarely kneed him in the ass. Earlier newcomer Timothy Castagne headed in a beautiful cross. Harvey Barnes has really stood out for Leicester City. Tearing across the field. Had a chance early but hit it right at the goalie. Only 22 one to watch going forward.

Late edit. Another penalty kick by Vardy. Picking up where he left off last season. Barnes' pace is causing a heap of trouble for West Bromwich Albion.

Chelsea is the team with all of their wonderful young talent but without question LC is another team I like a heck of a lot. Putting them on my must watch list.

Spaghetti! Ahh... then you bear national kinship to that great all-time American and Italian, Rocky Marciano, and to the peerless Joe Dimaggio, two of my all-time favorites!

7/11 pale faces start for Chelsea. 4/7 on the bench. Puls isn't match fit and sits out the game.

Let's hope for a good start. Liverpool scrapped a win in their opener.

Timo's electric pace wins a peno. Jorginho classy with the take, hop skip run up and makes the keeper commit, then cooly slots the ball into the opposite corner.

Selfishly I'd like to see Timo take the pens. Bet on him for top scorer this year.

This weekend only two afternoon games televised. I think it is because of Tour de France coverage. I think next week they will revert back to televising morning matches. Anyway press reports are saying Gareth Bale is being put on loan from Real Madrid to play for Tottenham this season. He is 31 years old. And as many know has a big time resume.

Great to see Tierney and Bellerin as a combo for arsenal. Bombers at the fullback position, up and down the wing for 90 minutes.

Kane with 4 assists and a goal. Son with 4 goals. Ings scored both Southamptons goals in the 5-2 defeat.

Chelsea playing Liverpool at the moment.

An inauspicious start for a young talented Chelsea squad. Frank Lampard better get his team together. Too much talent to be floundering around. I don't like Liverpool.

Today Manchester City won 3-1 with glue player Kevin De Bruyne scoring as well as ultra talented youngster Phil Foden. On that note another great young talent Harvey Barnes scored a goal for Leicester City in their 4-2 win Sunday.

It is unclear when Bale will first see action for Tottenham?

Just when I thought there was justice in the world when Solly March headed in the tying goal to make it 2-2 against United with virtually seconds left Neal Maupay foolishly had his arm up and nicked the ball just as the final whistle blew. United wins on the penalty kick 3-2. The most brutal loss of the season. Especially when you consider Brighton took over the game and kept nailing the goal post on numerous close goals. March in particular was pinging the post.

Is this the way the whole day is going to be in sports? Horrible. Lucky United. Daniel James never appeared.

Brighton who I think had 10 whites all game, were excellent. Utd have sadly gone dark in their attack the last couple years, although they have some bright spots (excuse the pun) The biggest is the match winner, what a penalty kick, text book.

Trossard is a very talented winger for Brighton and one to follow. Hit both posts and the crossbar.

Danny Ings scored the only goal in Southampton - Burnley. He has picked up were he left off last year.

Chelsea new boys taking time to adapt, but Kai and Timo are world class and will show it.

Mason Mount with a great goal that kicked started the comeback yesterday. 3 nil down to finish 3-3.

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford's (27 years old) late goal gives them a win over Sheffield United 1-0. He now has three for the year.

4-0 Chelsea.

Chilwell goal and assist. Jorginho with two pens. Bad news is the new keeper Mendy seems to be number 1 right away.

Chelsea is on and they are loaded. I would argue the greatest assembly of white players on any team in sports? Maybe? Anyway against Southampton Timo Werner just scored the goal of the year. Looking like a downhill skier in full flight Werner weaved around the defense for a breathtaking goal.

Pulisic is back in the line up so I expect this engine to finally get revved up.

Werner possessed today. Tap in header to make it 2-0. Great feed by Jorginho. Only area of worry for Chelsea appears to be their back end.

The ever dangerous Danny Ings makes it 2-1 with a splendid goal. Once he gets a step it's lights out.
