2019 British Open

Getting this thread started. You should be able to watch coverage on the Golf Channel around 1 am, I think.
I have my favorites as usual. It's being played in Northern Ireland for the first time in nearly 70 years. Rory McIlroy will certainly be the area favorite. I'll get up around 4:30/5:00 to begin watching the last major of the year!

Delighted to see how well McIlroy played. Skipping the Irish open really helped his preparation, sure, he u-turned the Olympics, so may see him back next year.

No Mickelson either.... or US Open Champion, Gary Woodland!
However, some interesting stories at or near the top!
1. Holmes, -8. Has never won a Major.
T3. Westwood, -7. 43 professional wins without a Major. At 46, looking to become the oldest first time major winner!
T5. Rose, -6. Englishman looking for another Major.
T8. Koepka, -5. Trying to win his 5th Major.
T8. Spieth, -5. Looking to win his second British Open and 4th Major at age 25!!
So far I've enjoyed watching some of the tournament except for the endless coverage of Woods who was around +6/+7 most of the day. He will continue to get the most coverage until when and if he ties and breaks Sam Snead's all time tournament wins, 82.

Irishman Shane Lowry played a dream round in front of the Irish crowd, shooting a sizzling 63 to get to -16 and open up a four shot lead over Tommy Fleetwood. Koepka and Rose are next at -9, with a bunch of big names at -8 and -7, including Spieth, Rahm and Fowler. Koepka's putting was terrible otherwise he'd be much closer to Lowry.

It would appear to be a two man race tomorrow, but the weather forecast is for heavy rain and strong winds, so it could be a wild final round. At this point it'd be a shame if Lowry doesn't close the deal at the first Open in Northern Ireland in 68 years, but we'll see how he deals with the pressure. He also had a four shot lead going into the final round of the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont but ended up losing to Dustin Johnson.

Lowry finished it off in style, winning by six strokes. Great win for him, one that will always be remembered. It was a British Open that played out almost like a movie script, reminds me of Jack Nicklaus' win at the 1986 Masters and the way the gallery went bonkers with joy. Really a cool event for a divided people who needed something like that.

I'm also glad I don't live in Northern Ireland. The fans were bundled up in the wind and rain like it was a late November college football game in the northern U.S.!
