Since 2005, Kent State has started 7, 8, 9, 9, 11, 10, 12, 11, 14, 12, 12 and 9 starters. In 2017 it looks like they are dropping down to 7 which would equal their all time low.
RB turned QB Nick Holley was one of the pleasant surprises of the 2016 season. He is not at all refined as a passer but showed plenty of athleticism as a running QB - for the 2017 season he is listed as a QB/WR - no RB label has been applied to him even though he rushed for 920 yards last year. It will be interesting to see how long they stick with him at the helm of the offense. Kent St. looks to be a lost cause anyways so let's just hope Holley has a great season and gets a ton of Edelman comparisons which will put a spotlight on him and help his chances at the next level.
The defense has no projected white starters. Nate Holley was a player I was looking forward to in 2016 but had some bizarre legal issues which got him kicked off the team. I did not even realize he was cleared before the draft as I gave up on following him once I heard of the charges last November. Looks like he was cleared of the major accusations against him but since he is white he was written off. Meanwhile Joe Mixon was caught on film punching a woman in the face and was rewarded by being selected in the 2nd round.
