Despite having probably the most easy-to-hate quarterback (and possibly player) in the league in Cam Newton and a relatively darker team, the Panthers are a team to root for mostly because of three players - college sensation, caste-busting, dynamic, versatile running back Christian McCaffrey, the best linebacker in the NFL, Luke Kuechly, and one of the best tight ends, Greg Olsen. The Panthers have a 3/5 starting OL with two backups, and good linebacker depth with three backups who will hopefully see some playing time. Second-string FS Colin Jones only played 13 snaps on defense in 2016 (269 on special teams), so hopefully he can get more playing time in 2017.

QB: Derek Anderson
RB: Christian McCaffrey (also PR)
TE: Greg Olsen, Chris Manhertz
OL: Matt Kalil, Andrew Norwell, Ryan Kalil, Greg Van Roten, Tyler Larsen

LB: Luke Kuechly, Jared Norris, David Mayo, Ben Jacobs
FS: Colin Jones

Special Teams: K Graham Gano, K Harrison Butker, P Michael Palardy, LS JJ Jansen
Practice Squad: QB Garrett Gilbert
Injury Reserve: QB Gino Gradkowski, WR Brenton Bersin, OT Dan France

Starters: 5 (will be 6 by the end of the season)
On 53-man roster: 19

Overall, not very good at all in terms of starters, but some nice LB depth and three superstar white players makes the Panthers a team to watch and, at times, support.

The Carolina Panthers has just announce the firing of o.c. Mike Shula and quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey. I guess they are the reason Cam could not throw it in the ocean. Look for CM to be moved to slot receiver next year.

You wonder if Newton might have had something to do with these firings. He could have told management that he didn't want to work with these guys anymore.

Will the new coaches be AA hires?

I doubt they will move CM to slot receiver. Rivera must know that CM is a security blanket for Scam and bailed him out many times during the course of the season as Scam was able to dink and dunk to him after he got flustered many, many times after his first receiving option wasn't open. McCaffrey is too valuable in this role to be moved to slot receiver. If the CM security option is removed from him then Scam will be exposed even more then he already has been.

It is amazing to me that the Carolina coaching staff lets Scam run the ball so much and runs option plays for him. They do this because they know his passing ability, particularly decision-making and reaction time, is so limited. They must know that a running quarterback is only going to take your team so far. Look at the loss to New Orleans. Brees was the significantly better passer in that game then Scam, and his team won.

I'd fire any OC that wasted an incredible talent like Christian McCaffrey!

I got to put a lot of the blame on the way used CM on the head coach Rivera. The game plan is his to ok or not, I feel he gave up running CM way to early in the season .It might have been orders from the owner or he was trying to satisfy a certain group of players we never will know.
