2016 Australian Open (new thread)

The other Tennis thread isn't working and there is no way to get to the Australian Open to pull up so here's a new thread.
I was thrilled to get up this morning and see that the Linebacker in a skirt had had lost in the Final, a Grand Slam Final no less. It took three sets but apparently she was somewhat dominated overall by Germany's Angelique Kerber, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. It was especially good to see the highlights and I am going to try somehow to catch the full match online.

Did any of you watch it?? Please let us know.

Awesome. I missed it. I wouldn't have predicted that. I was watching Kerber the other day and noticed she is leaner and fitter. Also, she has some very blue eyes that caught my attention.

Great news!

I wonder if Hollywood will make a sequel to their upcoming (cultural and psychological propaganda) film called "Race", that will be based on this match; perhaps called "Race II".

What unexpected great news! Brutus had steamrolled over all her opponents leading into the final and I had no hope for Kerber. Hopefully she uses this win to become a dominant player; unfortunately for a long time all the girls who have won grand slam tournaments have been unable to consistently compete afterward. Maybe Kerber can be the tennis equivalent of Jordan Spieth who rises as the Linebacker in a Skirt descends.

BTW, for those who get it, the Tennis Channel will repeat the men's and women's final a few times over the next week.

I was reading some Facebook comments on BSPN regarding this match, and one person noted that both Chris(sie) Fowler and Chrissie Everet were terribly biased during their call of it and wouldn't give Kerber any credit...just praising and hyping "The Linebacker in a skirt". It must hurt the Cultural Marxists over at BSPN terribly bad that a true German (not some mudshark spawn version of one) defeated the GOAT (in their opinion, at least) female tennis player that just happens to be black. Hopefully, they'll make a movie about it that will be the opposite of the one coming out called "Race", maybe call it "Reversed Race" (sarcasm).

Djokovic rolls over Murray in straight sets. Looks like it's his era alone now with Federer still great but fighting Father Time, Nadal in decline, and Murray always just a slight cut below the big three. Novak now has 11 major titles, pretty amazing given that Federer has 17 and Nadal 14. At 28, if he can maintain his peak for three more years he has a fairly good chance to pass Roger.

I was surprised to learn Kerber is 28, thought she was younger. Unless she's a real late bloomer she's unlikely to win many more majors.

I watched the finals today and Kerber had nerves of steel. She was able to maintain fairly lengthy rallies with the Linebacker, which is difficult to do but is the key to beating her/him.

Congrats to Djokovic, remarkable career so far. The French Open is the only major that eludes him. You know he wants to win that one. A shot making Stan Wawrinka defeated Novak in the French Open final last year.

I watched a replay of the ladies’ final yesterday. Don is correct, Kerber was able to rally with Wllliams a bit longer than most. She made some nice passes and winners along the way. Being left handed and executing effective forehands to the backhand also flustered Williams, I believe. Anyone ever notice how clumsy, ungraceful, and oafish the linebacker looks when she has to make an effort for a ball that is just out of reach?
