Just a further update on the World Championships:
As mentioned, Dafne Schippers won the 200m time in 21.63.
This a Championship record and a new European Record. It makes her the 3rd fastest woman all-time in this event. The 2 faster were Marion Jones (drug cheat and her time was at Altitude) and Florence Joyner (super drug cheat). So, I agree with the previous poster, that for all intents and purposes, Schippers is the World Record holder.
She also came 2nd in the 100m, almost running down Jamaica's Sheila Ann Fraser, who is one of the all time greats.
So between the 2 sprint races, you can confidently say that she is the best female sprinter in the world.
All this in just her first year of full-time sprinting.
Sergey Shubenkov won the men's hurdles in 12.98. He becomes the first white hurdler under 13 seconds. (Liu Xiang of China was the first Asian under 13.00).
In the women's 100m hurdles, Cindy Roleder of Germany just missed the gold by 0.02, and Alina Talay of Belarus got the bronze.
In the 400m hurdles, Zuzana Hejnova of the Czech Republic took the gold, and Denis Kudryatvsev of Russia took silver in the men's race.
In the men's 200m, Ramil Guliyev emerged from whatever cave he's been living in, to get 6th place. Unfortunately he didn't run as fast in the final and semi-final as he did in the heats. So obviously he is lacking some fitness, but at least he is running again, and running very well. Perhaps he can pick-up where Lemaitre left off.
The mens 100m was a disappointment, with Lemaitre and Kilty both performing poorly. Bingtan Su of China did make the final however, and ran 9.99 in the semis.
Finally, Greg Rutherford won the Long Jump, becoming World Champion, in addition to already being Olympic, European, and Commonwealth Games Champion.
p.s.
2nd went to Fabrice LaPierre of Australia.
3rd, 4th, and 5th went to the Chinese jumpers
6th to Menkov of Russia.
Not a bad showing overall, but especially Schippers made this a Championship to remember.
