Thanks Hawk. Wrestling is a VERY underrated sport which produces top notch athletes. Down south here, it doesn't get the press/glory of football, hoops & baseball, but it's definitely a more physically demanding sport than those three.

My youngest son started last season & I'm trying to convince my middle son to forgo hoops for wrestling (as I should have done). He's got good size, strength, stamina & toughness. I think he'd make a solid wrestler. :)

It's a great sport, and one that the Caste System has a hard time manipulating. Judging from earlier posts, I think we probably don't live all that far from each other, and wrestling is pretty big around here, even if it doesn't get as much press anymore. My younger son (age 12) started this year, and has completely fallen in love with it. He was way behind in development, but has a lot of fight and freakish flexibility.

I liked that in one of our best attended matches, the only non-white in the entire gym was our spigger coach (who presents white, and seems to be a pretty decent guy). That said, hispanics are very into wrestling. It's about the only thing they do besides soccer, so we are seeing a fair number of them some weeks. Oh well, still better than basketball with the dindus.

It is sad that not many college is the south have wrestling programs anymore. Title IX is largely to blame for this. Sad because the skills and displine that learned in wrestling has contributed in other sports as well. Many great O-lineman and Linebackers have wrestling backgrounds.

The only guys that I think might pursue MMA are Nick Gwiazdowski and Logan Steibler. Both guys seem to comment about UFC events a lot on their twitter.

Some outstanding accomplishments for our young grapplers! I'll be pulling for Nick G & Alex D to make it a "3 Peat" next year! :)

Earlier I posted that Logan Steiber was interested in pursueing MMA, what I ment to say was Logan Storley.
Storley was a four time All-American at 174, from the University of Minnesota, the same school that produced both Brock Lesnar and Cole Konrad. Anyways Storley recently announced that he would in fact be pursueing MMA after he is done with school. From his twitter post he seems to be a big MMA fan.
I don't know what camp he will be training at. My guess would be High Altitude MMA, Nate Marquardt's gym, which features two Minnesota wrestlers Sonny and Cody Yohn.
