Glad that this discussion forum is back.
Let's catch up on what's been going on....

on the men's side, John Teeters is the year's collegiate 60m sprinter at 6.52! That's right, he is the fastest 60m sprinter in the NCAA this year, and has been consistently running fast times.
Over in Europe there are several guys under 6.60 this year...at this point last year there were none.
Richard Kilty 6.54
Christian Blum 6.56
Christophe Lemaitre 6.57
Lucas Jakubcyzk 6.58

On the women's side Daphne Shippers has looked great and has a best time of 7.09. That's the fastest time in Europe and 2nd fastest in the world.
Verena Sailor has a time of 7.12. But the other big news is that Ewa Swoboda of Poland broke the European Jr Record with a time of 7.21. She is just 17yrs old! Between her and Daphne, the future looks good in Europe.
Stateside Jenna Prandini is picking up where she left off last year, and is 5th fastest collegian in the country. Hannah Cunliffe is tied for 13th fastest collegian and Katie Wise is the 16th fastest. Not bad!

Teeters has shown that last season was not a one off career season. He also was the world leader when he ran that time. I think the "ageless" Kim Collins is the World Leader with a 6.4X. Whatever Collins is on I want it so that I can fight father time too....:eyebrows:

I have been saying this for a while but there seems to be a ton of young talent out there and seems to be getting deeper.
I thought Teeters would be a one year fluke but with those 60 meter times he could be poised for a great outdoor year. I think the dude is 6'2" and he has a very strong body type. He should break 10 flat several times this summer. Just my opinion.
Thomas Sommers running a 20.3 200 meters at the age of 17. Adam Gemili is going to have a make or break season. Richard Kilty should be as good if not better than the last few years. Yoshihide Kiryu is going to be 20 and still vastly talente. Shota Izuka and Karol Kalewski should improve their 200 meters this season along with Pavel Maslak in the 400. Australian sprinters Jamie Gallagher, Rohan Browning and Jack Hale should be interesting to watch in the next 3 years. Kristoffer Harri should show improvement and look for Dario Horvat, Denis Denisov and maybe even Rytas Sakaulaskas to get under 10.1 in the 100 meters. Even Lemaitre is running indoors which someone posted in the fall he was going to skip. Its going to be an interesting year in the sprints.

The European Indoor Championships are on this weekend.
In the first track final Alina Talay of Belarus set a national record in winning the 60m Hurdles in 6.85.
Meanwhile, 2nd place went to Lucy Hatton, a Brit that I never heard of before this year. Her time was 6.90.
I'm impressed that Britain keeps turning out white sprinters, hurdlers, and jumpers even though they also have a lot of black athletes in those events as well.
It shows that whites can compete in these events when they aren't steered away from them (mentally and physically), as they are here in the States.

A good start to the heats of the 60m at the European Indoor Championships this morning.
Richard Kilty was tied for the fastest time in the men's at 6.57.
Meanwhile Dafne Schippers was the fastest women's qualifier with a new PB (personal best) of 7.07.
Let's hope they can hold their positions as the fastest going through the semis and into the finals.

Dafne Schippers is as good as any female sprinter out there. If she sticks with the sprints fulltime, I see no reason she can't easily go sub 11 and also go fast enough to challenger for an olympic gold medal. She is a once in a lifetime type sprinter. Poetry in motion and very easy on the eyes as well. Happy for Kilty too. I just wish they would have backed down a little to save energy but it's harder to do in the 60 meters and it can also sometime cost a sprinter the chance to go to the next round. Hope they as long as many others we cheer for continue to excel. We need some video links. That 7.07 by Dafne is incredible. Eye popping, track scorching time.

Pavel Maslak set a European Championship record in very easily winning the 400m in a great time of 45.33.
Nataliya Pyhyda of the Ukraine, won the women's 400m. And new Welsh star, Seren Bundy Davies, who has come out of nowhere this season, finished 3rd.
Ivana Spanovic of Serbia won the women's LJ.

Verena Sailer and Daphne Schippers both win their semi-finals and look strong for the finals.
In fact Sailer set another PB with a great time of 7.08.

Meanwhile, Richard Kilty looked awesome in his semi, running clear of the field, easing down significantly over the last 5m, and still running the fastest semi time of 6.53!
He looks good for the final.

Great news in the short sprints at the Euro Indoor Championships!
Daphne Schippers came through with a strong finish to win the 60 meters in a WL time of 7.05.
Verena Sailer got 3rd, missing 2nd by 1/100th of a second.

In the men's 60 meter, Richard Kilty won easily in a great time of 6.51, fastest European time this year.
2nd place went to Christian Blum and 3rd to Julian Reus.

I'm pumped right now. Richard Kilty proved once again that he is the best indoor sprinter on the planet. Incredible race and he was never really challenged. Happy as well For Christian Blume and Julian Reus. This continues the resurgence of German Sprinting winning medals at Big Competitions. One guyas well that is slowly coming back into form is Michael Tumi. Only 1/100th away from the bronze medal. Great show and a clean sweep by our guys. My only other wish is that all 3 of the medalists can join Lemaitre in the Sub 10 Club this summer. Here is the video. Enjoy gentlemen.

In the women's 4x400 the French team edged Britain and Poland with a team of 3 blacks and 1 white. Meanwhile, the Brits ran a team of 4 white women.
Both France and Britain have significant black populations, but as I mentioned early, unlike France and the US who have ceded track athletics to their black population, the British still have whites competing favorably in the sprints, hurdles, and jumps.
This just goes to show that whites can compete in these events if they try and are not discouraged from doing so.

Now for the womens 60 meter final. Our girls won 2 of the 3 medals. Great race and many new personal bests across the board even by some of the other euro sprinters. Congrats to DafneSchippers. She is in a class of her own. The female "Lemaitre". So happy for her and Sailer. Here is the video of the final.

Belgium sets a European record in the men's 4 x 400m relay, just edging Poland who also beat the previous European record.
Belgium ran the 3 the Borlee brothers - Kevin, Jonathan, and Dylan - along with Julian Watrin.
Congratulations to that fast family, and well done by Poland too.

Unbelievable runs by Shippers and Sailer, but maybe the best run of all was in last place?? That was SEVENTEEN YEAR-OLD Eva Swoboda running an unbelievable 7.20.

If I remember correctly, Swoboda was on track to become world junior champion last year, but got injured before the finals.

Looking for an Olympic final of Shippers, Sailer, Prandini, Swoboda, and Cunliffe soon.

Meanwhile, both Kilty and Teeters are in form to break 10.

Other championship performances of note:
1) Jakub Holusa wins the 1500 in a fine time for a championship.
2) Lewandowski wins the 800 although Bosse and Kszczot weren't in it.
3) Surprising Selina Buchel takes the women's 800 in a quick final.
4) prior to that race, Jenny Meadows had been completely dominating the women's 800 this year, with all of the best times.
5) Men's 400: Has anyone mentioned that Maslak not only won the championship, but has the world's two top times this year and 4 in the top 10?
6) Zach Bilderback has the world's ninth best in the 400.

I read an article yesterday where Kilty was quoted saying he believed if he did not ease up in the semi-final I he would have run a 6.45 60 meters. I don't know how much validity there is to that claim but he sais he is in shape much like he was last year indoors but not outdoors last season. If Kilty stays healthy he could run a sub 9.9 in the right conditions. I have also noticed a lot of sprinters tend to run faster times when challenged. Kilty was never challenged in the finals thus the 6.51 which is still blazing. I have a really good feeling about Kilty's future though it is just speculation at this point.
It was also nice to see Pascal Mancini back. He is a drug cheat but the guy never ran under a 10.4 100 meters even when he was cheating. With his consistent 6.6 60 meter times he could probably get in the 10.1 100 meter range this year.

If any track fan wants to know what happened to young 100 meter sprinter , Julian Watrin of Belgium, he is now 20 years old and running the 400 meters now as he started off Belgiums 4 x 400 indoor European championships relay with the 3 Borlee brothers taking the other 3 spots. At least he is still running.

The NCAA Indoor Championships are on this weekend.

Here's a quick run-down of some guys to keep an eye on:

-In the 60m John Teeters is the #1 seed, meaning he has the fastest time of all the entrants.
-In the 200m Sam Watts is seeded #5.
-In the 400m Cody Rush is #4, Christopher Giesting #7, and Zack Bilderback #10.
-In the 60m Hurdles, Sebastian Barth is seeded #3. I wonder what happened to Jonathan Cabral of Oregon? Devon Allen is recovering from his football injury.
-In the 4x400m relay Nebraska is seeded #4, with an all-white quartet. Photo here:

-High Jump, Wally Ellenson, a basketball player for Marquette is seeded #1
-Long Jump, Roelf Pienaar, is seeded #3. Where is Corey Crawford of Rutgers this year? Last year he was sensational.
In the Triple Jump, Manuel Ziegler is seeded 4th.

On the whole, things look very good going into the meet. There is a potential medalist in every sprint, hurdle, and jump event.
Let's hope these guys can come through on expectations and get a few medals.

Great write up Jacknyc. I would love to see Teeters win the sprint title. Not as good as an outdoor title but it would still send a message. Nothing would be better this summer than to see an white american go sub 10. It needs to happen!
