Since 2005, Colorado State has started 15, 16, 17, 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8 white starters.

Expect 8 this year.

After back to back successful Garrett Grayson led seasons in 2013 and 2014, the Rams look to remain competitive with a new starting QB, Red Shirt Freshman Nick Stevens, and a new head coach, former Georgia OC Mike Bobo who replaces Jim McElwain who shoehorned his was out of CSU and bolted for Florida before the teams bowl game.

The 2015 version of the Rams squad will see the lingering effects of the Black Plague left by the departed McElwain that saw the number of starters drop to single digits for the first time that I can recall. The racial makeup is very similar to the 2014 squad with a white QB and O-Line, and Kawulok and Morgan anchoring the defense.

With this being Hansley and Kawulok senior season, expect the Rams to turn into a neo-traditional white QB, O-Line, and seldom used receiver team with a coal black defense. All 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] and 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] stringers behind the trio are upsiders.

I expect more of the same from Mike Bobo for years to come, who spent his entire life around the SEC in Georgia.

OFFENSE
Nick Stevens – QB
Joe Hansley – WR
Nolan Peralta – TE
Mason Myers – LG
Fred Zerblis - RG
Kevin O’Brien – C
Sam Carlson – RT

DEFENSE
Joe Kawulok – DE

Other notable names include Mitch Parsons, a TE who transferred from Vanderbilt and is eligible to play this year.

Don't forget Redshirt Freshman WR Trey Smith, a top in-state recruit with legit 4.3 speed (that the "brothas" on the team call "White Lightning"). He played running back in high school, but was moved to the more racially-appropriate position of WR under McElwain.

YouTube High School Highlights showcasing his speed

He was the second leading receiver in their recent Spring game...

Nick Stevens, a redshirt sophomore likely to win the starting quarterback job, threw the ball with accuracy and great touch, especially on deep balls. Unknown redshirt freshman Trey Smith hauled in two bombs down the left sideline from Stevens and made a name for himself with 145 yards and two touchdowns. “Trey Smith has tremendous speed,â€￾ Bobo said of him postgame. “He’s probably the fastest guy on our team but he’s still a little raw as a receiver.â€￾ If Smith can work to refine his skills in the summer, he’s a kid Ram fans will be delighted in watching this fall.

(Then, an excerpt on Hansley's performance)
Senior Joe Hansley led the team in terms of catches (8) and yards (148) and he worked to steal the ball away from a defender in solid position when Stevens under-threw it a little. Hansley’s worked his entire CSU career to be a great receiver and he’s impressed Bobo. “Every time we throw him the ball he makes plays,â€￾ the coach explained. “He’s a willing blocker, he’ll put his face on somebody, and he’s doing a nice job.â€￾

Great news. I like this team. its very unfortunate they don't have more whites on that defensive depth chart!
