After enduring another brutal season at the hands of the overrated Logan Thomas, Virginia Tech returns to ACC title contention with Texas Tech transfer QB Michael Brewer at the helm. Brewer looks to likely hold off two black quarterbacks for the starting job. Since 2005, the Hokies have started 5, 5, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7, and 7 starters. Assuming both starters win their position battles, VT will move up to a new record of 8 starters.

QB - Michael Brewer (in a fight for position)
FB - Sam Rogers
TE - Ryan Malleck (in a fight for position)
LG - Wyatt Teller
C - Caleb Farris
RG - Augie Conte
RT - Mark Shuman

Defense -
LB - Chase Williams

Back ups on the two deep include FB Greg Gadell, LT Parker Ostelloh, C Adam Taraschke, RG Braxton Pfaff, WR Willie Byrn, DTs Wade Hansen, DT Vinny Mihota, and OLB Derek DiNardo.

Chase Williams is the son of Gregg Williams, the current Defensive Coordinator for the St. Louis Rams and former defensive coordinator for the Redskins and Saints. Williams is a fifth year senior. There was an article in the Washington ComPost this morning about the two of them. Chase only has had 114 defensive snaps in his four years in the VT program but is finally getting his chance to start this year. Sounds like it's been a racial apprenticeship. Typical of the VT program; they love their student affroletes and black quarterbacks.

FB - Sam Rogers

Huge win for VTech in Columbus.. This walk-on Sam Rogers had a good game: 5 catches & a TD.

Also VT's new transfer QB (Michael Brewer) played great. A couple of bad INTs, but he was cool under pressure, completing in tight windows.. and the kid is a good scrambler. To me, he looked Steve Young'esque at times. I'm rooting for this kid ~

Anyone else watch this one, other thoughts (?)

I think most of us who stayed on the board tonight were watching that VT-OSU game.

I think Brewer was the story of the game. He wore out the Buckeyes defenders, not by taking off, but just by constant drifting away from them while waiting for his receivers to get open. That's an incredible sense of space-awareness ("pocket presence"). Byrn, Malleck, and Rogers were crucial to VT's success, of course. Getting open and holding on to the damned ball (which negro WRs struggle with so much) allowed the Hokies to chew up the OSU defense repeatedly. Performing like this against such a star-laden defensive roster indicates that Brewer and Co. might just be the front runners for the ACC's potential playoff spot this year.
