Since 2005, UAB has started 5, 3, 5, 5, 5, 6, 2, 7, and 8 whites. Look for UAB to go back down to their normal levels, starting 5 this year. There dont appear to be any 2nd or 3rd string white receivers either. Dark team.

Offense
Cody Clements - QB
Bryan O'Leary - C
Cameron Blankenship - RG (doesnt appear to be related to Beau)
Hayden Naumann - RT

Defense

Jake Ganus - WLB

Don't know if this was mentioned in other threads but UAB terminated their football program. Not sure what implications if any it will have for or against the caste system.

at any rate Jake Ganus is a stud who started at safety as a true frosh a while ago so I'm curious as to where he ends up.

I think the players are all able to transfer without sitting out a year much like they did with psu players. I don't think there will be an effect felt on the caste system.

good to see you back posting vanilla_sky!

I just checked out the stats for Jake Ganus. He has a really good year. I hope he is able to transfer to a big time program. Their qb Clements also looks to be a solid player.

Overall i don't really feel bad that this program is shutting down though. It was not a white friendly program. Some of the best evidence of the caste system exists when looking at the racial make up of the Sun belt, Conf USA and AAC teams. Many of these teams have the same type of racial composition as the SEC teams, hell some even look like they are HBCUs. Most of these teams stink year in and year out yet they keep ignoring the huge white talent pool and continue to recruit blacks never considering that the players they are recruiting are the reason they suck. So many of the white FCS guys that are dominating aren't good enough to play at these lower level FBS schools? It's a joke at this point.

this program is shutting down../ the Sun belt,..

In reading about this story, I noticed some speculation that Alabama's Board of Trustees may have always resented and/or sabotaged football on their Birmingham campus.. Anyone here speak to that (?)

I really haven't noticed UAB's football program, but I think it kinda' sucks for the kids & alumni to lose that aspect of their college experience.

I remember when UAB left Sun Belt basketball.. yeah, the lost, halcyon days of UAB, ODU, UNC-Charlotte, & Jacksonville basketball :ranger:

I understand lamenting the lost program for nostalgia's sake. I came to my opinion after reading the first ESPN article and ensuing comments, where some "brave" "pariah" senior player stood up to chastise the school president during the official press conference. From what I gathered from the actual journalism, the school is currently subsidizing 2/3 of the team's annual $30 million operating costs, and projects to require another $30-$50 million in fixed costs for facility repairs/renovations over the next five years. Of course, the framing of this story breaks down to "old rich white rednecks in suits" versus the poor black players who are just trying to get educated and feed their families. How they reconcile the slur "redneck" with rich men in suits, I couldn't rightly say. But as usual, the bottom line boils down to "mo' money fo' dem programs."

This might not hurt or help the caste system in a big way, but as far as white racial interests go, it's a plus. UAB currently has six men's varsity sports compared to eleven for women thanks to silly Title IX requirements. Thanks to the newly-free 80+ scholarships for male athletes, UAB can now field teams for wrestling, track, cross country, and more. Such "equal opportunity" sports will undoubtedly lead to more free education for the region's young white men, at least compared with the proportion that were allowed to play football.

The campus crime rate will miraculously drop next year. They still won't have a wrestling team though, the costs of awarding "partial scholarships" to true student-athletes, 2 refs, a mop and bucket, some tape, and a couple of alumni donated mats would be too much of a burden to the university.
