Unbelievable run by the Kings. I've adopted them as my second favorite sports team after the Penguins.
The Rangers played their hearts out and Lundqvist was super-human the past two games, but the Kings were too determined and too good. The Stanley Cup playoffs were awesome this year, the toughest test in sports and nothing else is close.

Here in LA, Kings Hockey is a family oriented sport. No need for 1000s of cops to quell the victory and restore order by putting out fires, burning police cars and shooting rubber bullets at the fans to have them go the F home. Wonder why that is?
Game 5 got 6 million viewers. Game 4 of the NBA final got 15 million.
Considering that the NBA gets about 20 times more hype from the corporate sports media as hockey, that's not bad at all.
And the Kings' success is getting a lot more young (White) kids interested in playing hockey in Southern California, which has always been a stronghold of great White athletes. I highly doubt basketball is becoming more popular among young athletes anywhere in the country.
The NHL Network was nauseating in hiring just about every former black NHL player they could find (Kevin Weekes, Jamal Myers, Anson Carter) for their playoff coverage. So just as with football, basketball, baseball, golf and tennis, the magical race is grossly over-represented in broadcasting positions. I will give the blacks on the NHL Network credit for actually speaking English properly, unlike most of the black "talent" on ESPN, the NFL Network and the NBA Network.

I was going by a survey asking American sports fans their favorite sport. The order was:
1. NFL
2. MLB
3. NHL
4. NASCAR
5. NBA

I don't have the time to look up everything and "back it up" right now with links, but keep two very important things in mind:
1) While it is absolutely true that the NBA Finals have gotten much better ratings in recent year (largely due to the Heat and Lakers), the NHL and NBA's rating are almost identical during their long regular seasons (80 and 82 games). Don't forget, the NBA All-Star is on cable, because the ratings are never good....The gap, also, isn't great in the earlier rounds of the playoffs.
2) I posted in 2012 that a significant chunk of the NBA ratings are due to a tsunami of black males ( who only comprise about 6% of the population in this country) that watch the regular season and playoffs from beginning to end. Take out that 6%, who are not all that attractive to advertisers due to high unemployment rates (ect.), and the NHL's ratings might even beat the NBA's ratings with the other 94% of the U.S.' population during the regular seasons and early playoffs.

So basically, what happens is black men love basketball and the NBA and account for most of their ratings from November all the way through May. Then "whitey" finally shows up in fairly large numbers around June to watch the NBA finals and gives them "real impressive ratings" for a few weeks (NBA finals). But, again, do not forget the mediocre-to-poor NBA ratings from November to early June.
