A little bit of good news from the US Championships....Brandon Byram won his 200m today, just edging Wallace Spearmon Jr.
I didn't see the race, but it shows he will be a contender in the semis tomorrow. Good Luck!

That is great news as he was in a very fast heat and also didn't have a good lane draw in my honest opinion. I wonder if he will
race any meets in Europe before the summer ends. It has to be very hard for anyone to choose athletics post college due to very
few sponsors out there. Most people have to survive which means working a regular job and then trying to train on top of that. A
perfect example would be Dallas Robinson and how with all of that talent he still had to work full time in a tire shop. It drains your
energy and for the most part kills any chance of a career in sprinting.

Glad to see Brandon Byram at least still trying to chase the dream. He is a likeable kid. Good luck to him in the semifinals.

Another interesting bit of news from US Championships...
Andrea Geubelle of the Univ. of Kansas is the US triple jump champion! Honestly I can't ever remember a white American female (or male) triple jumper.
And Amanda Smock came in 3rd!

Female triple jumping is relatively new as the event might be about 15 years old at the world level. People have said for years that the track in Oregon is fast and the wind gauge might be faulty, today Brianna Rollins set a new American record and was close to one of the oldest records in female track and field with time of 12.26 in the Women's 100 hurdles. Ps every time I hear Ato Bolden give colour commentary he sounds like wants to have every competitors baby..... PS II, I must have confused the location of this championship the meet is in Iowa at Drake University. One note they did reverse the direction of the hurdles final to catch a possible strong tailwind on the new American record.

What a shame! Based on the heats, it looked like he would have made the finals.

In less than ideal conditions, Pavel Maslak ran a 45.22 in the 400 meters today in Ostrava. He continues to be a good 400 sprinter but with his youth I think the best is yet to come in the next 4-6 years. Brian Gregan of Ireland also ran descent turning in a time of 45.55 for 4th place.

great to see sally pearson back and already in good form .. great to see super " G" guliyev back in action ,,,i reckon if he remains focused ramil can cause real damage in moscow especially being ethnic russian he is on home territory , amazes me why the russian federation havent claimed him . .....and some great runs by brandon byram in the usatfs , regardless of injury he has a new pb in the bag of 20.21 and still buckets of potential !!!!.. also anybody know where shane crawford is ? and if lemaitre is running this weekend in london ??

Likourgos Stefanos Tsakonas of Greece ran a 20.45 with a negative 0.7 wind today! Great time and he is only 22 years of age. With a good wind he is in the mid 20.30's. I think the best is yet to come from this kid. I'm so glad to see some new names rising up.

In the Polish Under 20 National Championships, Karol Zalewski ran a new p.b. of 10.25 wind legal. Another polish guy Olzewski ran a 10.38 so we are seeing some nice time from the young poles. Great to see for the future as Dariusz Kuc never hit his full potential.

Hey guys. I'm heading north for the weekend. I won't be here to see the results of the German National Champs and the Paris Diamond League. It's really sucks that I can't see Christope race live against the fastest field he has ever faced outside of the olympics or world champs. Hoping for a sub 20 and I in all honesty will be shocked if he doesn't do it. Ryeman and Lalova are in the womens 100!

Hoping Julian Reus or Martin Keller can show some kind of form this weekend. There might be some other national champs in europe too. Haven't had time to check.

Next weekend is the European Under 23 Championships and the field is loaded with some of the best young stars across Europe. Hopefully there will be some kind of live coverage.


Let's hope for some new season bests this weekend. Hope you guys have a great independence day.

Here is a video of Boderenkos 2.41 meter high jump. This is one of the best jumps I've seen in a long time. Look at how high he clears the bar. He had a few close attempts at a new world record of 2.46 meters but it wasn't meant to be yet. Amazing jump!

Here is a video of Boderenkos 2.41 meter high jump. This is one of the best jumps I've seen in a long time. Look at how high he clears the bar. He had a few close attempts at a new world record of 2.46 meters but it wasn't meant to be yet. Amazing jump!

He doesn't even touch the bar at 2.41. And his first attempt at 2.46 is not ridiculous at all. I think that this guy could have cleared 2.42 or 2.43 today, very close to the world record. Nobody has jumped so high since 1994!

great performance by ryemyen in zurich over 200 meters. disappointed with bbc commentary and lack of respect for eastern european athletes, still think there is an underlying dislike upheld by yrs of eastern bloc athletic domination

Just a couple of quick updates.

David Angel Rodriguez of Spain ran a 10.18 wind legal. He is 33 years of age now and he has had a very solid career. Probably the best sprinter Spain has ever had. Spain does have alot of talented youngsters on the rise so hopefully they can follow in Davids footsteps.

Pavel Maslak ran a new czech nat'l record or 20.51 in the opening rounds of the 200 into a negative wind. He should be able to better that in the next round. Also Karol Zalewski of Poland ran a 20.54 into an even stronger headwind. The Euro Under 23 Champs is heating up. Good luck to both of these guys in the finals along with Adam Gemeli.

It was the World University Games and he did make the final along with his Ukrainian Teammate and also Lithuaninan Rytis Sakalauskas. He went on to run another p.b. of 10.21 in the finals to finish in a 3 way tie for 2nd but they didn't give him a medal as then they go to 1/1000th of a second. Either way it was a great showing for Smelyk.

Andrew Robertson of England runs a new p.b. of 10.14 to finish 3rd in the UK 100 Meters Finals. What a performance. I didn't see
that one coming. Greg Cackett is running alot better too. He ran a p.b. of 10.21 a week ago and he ran 10.26 today in the finals. It's too bad
he couldn't have been just a little faster as making the team in the individual 100 would have been special for Cackett. It's too bad that Drug Cheat Dwain Chambers won his 7th national title though. Anybody but him.

Good time for Robertson!
But the rest of this is bad news. Because it may mean that Gemili won't run in the World Championships.
James Dasaolu ran 9.91 in the semis, so he will be selected.
Dwain Chambers won the final, so he will be selected.
And HAA ran 10.08 vs. Gemili's 10.20 in the Euro U23 Championships. So a good chance that HAA will get the nod over Gemili.
Also Gemili did himself no favors with a poor showing in the 200m at Euro U23 today - 20.51 for 4th place.
The winner was Karol Zalewski of Poland in 20.41

Richard Kilty finished 2nd in the 200 meters finals at the UK Champs. Dammit. I was really hoping he would win going away since he pulled out of the 100 yesterday. The plan was to double all along. Not sure why his coach had him pull out. Hopefully the UK Team will take two guys for the individual 200 meters in Moscow. Greg Cackett really impressed me all weekend. He has always been a horrible 200 meters runner but his times the last month in the 100 and 200 show he is moving in the right direction. He is a 100 meter specialist but running the deuce always helps speed endurance.

Gemili is likely to be their top choice, even though he didn't run here. He has been their best 200m sprinter this year.
I hope Kilty will get the chance to run, but it all depends on the selectors. Their selection system is different than the US system.

A new name in the women's short hurdles - Cindy Billaud.
She won the French Championships in an amazing time of 12.59. Fastest in Europe this year.
She seems to have come out of nowhere at the age of 27, which is a bit suspicious in my mind, but I will take it until I hear otherwise.
